FIELD COORDINATOR

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on behalf of the International Livestock Research
Institute (ILRI) invites applications for the position of a Project Coordinator. The project coordinator will be part of the project team for a 2-year USAID funded project aimed at increasing availability of ITM vaccine to more livestock keepers in Tanzania.
This is to be achieved through expansion of the distributional networks which will involve recruitment of additional distributors and expanding the networks of distributor agents for new and existing distributors and training, equipping and linking vaccinators to cattle keepers through innovative linkage mechanisms.
The project will be implemented in different ports of the country including the northern regions of Tango and Morogoro as well as in the Southern highlands regions where ILRI and its partners are working to transform the dairy value chain and increase household income through the hub approach
Background: ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing
countries’ is a member of the CGIAR Consortium www.cgiar.org a global research partnership of
15 centers working with many partners for a food-secure future. IlRI has two main campuses in East
Africa and other hubs in East, West and Southern Africa and South, Southeast and East Asia. www.ilri.org
Duty Station: This is a Notionally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Key requirements:
The person will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the project to ensure timely and effective implementation and completion. Specifically, the project coordinator will be responsible for the following activities:
Coordinate project planning and implementation, including assessing needs, setting goals and objectives in consultation with the Project Leader (PL).
Establish project work plans and a calendar of events; monitor, review, and evaluate progress in consultation with the project team.
Represent the project at meetings and distribute minutes to project team members on behalf of the PL.
Keep the PL informed about project status and issues that may impact the project on a regular basis.
Maintain good relations, provide advice, serve as olioison and as a resource person to partners.
Establish and maintain internal and external contacts as necessary.
Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information to the project team and partners.
Verify and analyse the accuracy of data and information used or generated by project partners; resolve any discrepancies or problems.
Propose ideas to the project team for improving the implementation of the project based on experience on the ground. .
Prepare records of project activities; oversee and ensure the timely processing and delivery of required reports in consultation with the PL
Key requirements:
Degree in animal science or related field. A post graduate qualification in Project Management, Entrepreneurship or Rural development would an added advantage.. .
Minimum of 3 years' experience in the delivery of development projects with a private sector or NGO

Knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools e.g. MS Project
Knowledge of computers and database/spreadsheet/ word processing software.
Excellent communications including verbal, written English and presentation skills.

Strong multi-tasking, planning and organizational skills
Problem solving skills.
Ability to conceptualize and organize project planning process.
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment
Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adoptable to changing priorities.
Ability to work with wide range of people.
