Position: Business Development Manager (Strategy and Marketing) (BDM).
This position is reporting to the Technical Director: Agribusiness Innovation Centre (AIC). The General Purpose of the Position is for identifying, qualifying and supporting client and companies to grow their business. This will include structuring and developing their business strategies and in facilitating access to markets, new technologies and finance.
The following are the key responsibilities:
Sourcing and qualifying prospective clients.
Diagnosis of client companies to identify strengths and weaknesses at different levels e.g. personnel, business model, products and services, procurement of raw materials, optimization of production processes and efficiency, logistics, marketing, management, etc.
Diagnosis of external market conditions including opportunities and threats; market research; competitor analyses; development of business processes and sales policies; and tracking of sales activities etc.
Support for the development of detailed business growth plans and ongoing performance evaluation of client companies.
Monitoring of financial and sales performance, management and business development of client companies and avoid default risks.
Relationship and network building with key private sector and government stakeholders to source
business opportunities for client companies. .
Development of a network of business support and technical consultants:
Assistance in the negotiation of contracts and market access on behalf of client companies.
Implement the Client Royalty Agreement, especially schedule 1 (scope of AIC activities for client accepted into AIC
Promotion, marketing and information dissemination about AIC to potential clients and other stakeholders at meetings and relevant forums.
Maintain contacts with financial institutions on client performance and obtain credit facilities
Maintain contacts with PASS colleagues on Credit Guarantee Fund (CGF) and loan status of AIC clients
Identify shortcomings in agro-processing and come up with technical sound solutions
Liaise with external agencies and authorities (SIDO, TCCIA, processors associations)
Perform other related duties when required and / or at the request of the AIC Director.
Qualification and experience
1: A degree in a management discipline (an MBA will be an advantage).
2.At least ten years of experience in a business development role, with the last three years having been in Tanzania where proof of performance outcomes can be presented (e.g. increase in sales; increase in market position/share etc.)
3.Held an external sales position for at least three years during their career.
4.Experience in analyzing business operations and in crafting strategies to develop the business to access viable markets while overcoming competitive threats.
5.Experience in starting and managing a small business will be a distinct advantage. Experience in selling processed food products will be an advantage.
6.Experience in providing business development advisory services to small enterprises will be an advantage.
7.Experience in the agribusiness sector will be a distinct advantage.
8.Evidence of networking and relationship building ability.
9.Evidence of negotiating and deal making ability.
10.Computer literacy.
11.Good communication skills - both written and verbal. .
12 .. The ability to multi-task under tight deadlines.
13. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Swahili.
Terms of employment
The Business Development Manager (Strategy and Marketing) will be employed on a three years' renewable contract; the renewal of the contract will be on the basis of the performance. PASS offers competitive remuneration package. The position will be located in Morogoro with field visits required to clients' businesses within Tanzania. A vehicle or alternative means of transport will be provided for official duties.
