The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Security Investigator in the Regional Security Office.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Incumbent oversees U.S. Mission related traffic, personnel and criminal investigations. Incumbent liaisons with the RSO office, police and local government sectors. Incumbent provides advice and counsel on dealing with police personnel as well as when dealing with complex cultural, governmental and protocol issues when dealing with Tanzanians from all levels of government.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs a full range of personnel investigations relating to traffic accidents, crimes against mission personnel, and determination of applicants’ suitability of employment with the US Mission. Writes detailed reports of the investigations.

2. Advises the RSO on potential Mission security threats, court proceedings and status of police investigations. Liaisons between police and RSO office.

3. Requests assistance from police in both traffic and CID divisions during investigations and for VIP events. Provides coordination for VIP visits and arranges weapons permits for these visits. On an as needed basis the incumbent has to direct efforts into dealing with extraordinary situations.

4. Continues professional relationships with key host government and police personnel who are capable of approving RSO/US Mission’s requests for assistance. Updates RSO as these incumbents transfer, arranges meetings with RSO and officials as they transfer into these positions.

5. Supervises the work of Asst FSNI, Security Clerk positions. Incumbent provides consultation and guidance as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

- Education:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree is required in law, business administration or human resources or related field. - Prior Work Experience:
From five to ten years of progressively responsible experience in investigative work with Military, Police, private or U.S. Government organizations. - Post Entry Training
Foreign Service Institute online and classroom training on supervisory. - Language proficiency:
Level IV (fluent) in English and Kiswahili in (speaking, reading and writing) is required. - Knowledge:
Jobholder must know and understand Diplomatic rights and privileges, Embassy Employee Handbook, roles and responsibilities of Embassy staff and offices. Jobholder must have extensive knowledge of the law, customs and habits of those in various regions of Tanzania. The position also requires Expert level subject matter of both GOT and USG procedures. In addition, Jobholder must have the capability to know, understand and act accordingly to the 12 FAM certification. - Skills and Abilities:
Incumbent must have keen problem solving and communication skills and the ability to detect deceitfulness. Incumbent must also possess the ability to maintain extensive contacts with officials of various local agencies. Ability to exercise initiative and resourcefulness in obtaining information or evidence. Ability to draft precise reports in English and in the host country language. Drivers license, typing and computer skills required. Ability to obtain a Tanzanian firearms license and to qualify with a firearm to DS standards required.
