Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an international centre of excellence and our staff have access to the most up to date, cutting edge technology, making us world leaders in our field. LSTM is one of the few academic organisations with expertise in the science of evaluating the effectiveness and impact of Capacity Strengthening (CS) which is a key component of the work undertaken by LSTM’s Centre for Neglected Tropical Diseases (CNTD).
The role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated Research Assistant to join a multi-disciplinary team to provide support to the activities in CNTD’s programmes in achieving sustainable capacity development. You will be involved in assisting regional NTD laboratories, monitoring the progress of capacity strengthening plans, documenting successes and challenges, and providing support to help the delivery on plans. Additionally, you will assist the CSIR unit in developing commercial and bid proposals, preparing research papers and writing reports as required by the project.
Possessing a Masters in a relevant discipline, you will be an ambitious and self motivated researcher with experience of working in a medical laboratory. Experience gained within a low or middle income country is essential to understand the issues and challenges associated with capacity strengthening programmes and measuring their impact.
Strong IT and analytical skills, time management and organisational skills are essential to the role, as is the ability to work both collaboratively and independently across a multi-disciplinary research team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of people is crucial to the role as you will be liaising closely with our in-country partners on their capacity strengthening plans.
The post will be based within Liverpool but will involve field work overseas so the ability to travel is an essential requirement of the role.
