Purpose of Position:
This is a management level position supporting the management of the interventions of the Children’s Programmes, Community Engagement and Quality Assurance Groups. Your main role will be to lead and facilitate; Monitoring & Evaluation, Baseline & Evaluation Survey, Data Management, Reporting, Documentation and Networking. You will ensure that Mkombozi places quality and organisational learning at the heart of the organisation, and to ensure that we remain accountable and true to our mission and vision, to our stakeholders and to ourselves. This will be done through a variety of measures, in view of the local context and national and international standards. You will support the Director and the Management Team in making strategic and operational decisions, and are directly accountable to the Director. He/she will supervise the Research Officer and volunteers in the M&E department. He/she will spend at least 25% of time carrying out M&E related fieldwork.
You will coordinate the activities required to meet quality standards, enable Mkombozi to assess its progress and impact on a regular basis, promote organisational learning and capture the perspectives of our stakeholders using Mkombozi’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems. As a member of the Programmes Coordinators’ team, you will facilitate consultative reflection meetings, monitoring, evaluation and reviewing of expected and unexpected results, timely report writing and preparation and review of strategic operational plans.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Ensure that meaningful indicators and benchmarks are established, tracked, and revised as appropriate
- Provide guidance and technical support to the programmes coordinators and ensure that the designing and implementation of programmes are in line with Mkombozi’s mission and methodologies
- Oversee monitoring and evaluation of programmes, and ensure timely writing of organisational monthly, bi- annual and annual monitoring and evaluation reports
- Contribute to and participate in strategy development efforts in the form of proposals, partner briefings and the development of strategic and operational plans
- Take the lead in further developing and implementing the Most Significant Change (MSC) technique and the Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach to M&E at Mkombozi, which together with Result Based Management constitutes Mkombozi’s M&E systems
- Strengthen and improve Mkombozi’s M&E system using other methodologies as appropriate, with a particular focus on capturing the voices of Mkombozi’s different stakeholders
- Facilitate the development and maintenance of systems for ongoing data collection and analysis, including the Mkombozi database
- Assist in facilitating and be a point person in the research that takes place at Mkombozi, in collaboration with research teams.
- Develop, document and review M&E systems and tools.
- Work with the Finance department in strengthening value for money activities.
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
- Masters degree in M&E, social sciences, or other relevant field;
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant development programming experience, including at least 2 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation systems (including developing indicators, instruments and qualitative and quantitative methodologies).
- Training and/or experience in quantitative and/or qualitative social science research methods, required
- Experience in data management and in using database programs (preferably EpiInfo, SPSS and Access) for data entry, analysis and reporting.
- Experience in designing and conducting impact assessments, preferred
- Experience in training and field use of qualitative data collection methods such as PRA/PLA, Appreciative Inquiry and focus groups discussions, preferred.
- Experience and skills in using Microsoft Word and Excel and experience in desktop publishing software required.
- Fluency in English both written and oral communication skills. Good in Swahili
- Cross-cultural communication skills, ability to build positive relationships across cultures
- Ability to work as a good team player
