MBEYA UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (MUST)

Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a product of Mbeya Technical College that was in operation since 1986 to 2005. On 1st April, 2005, the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania through the National Council for Technical Education Establishment Order of 2004. Also through section 9 of the National Council for Technical Education Act No. 6 of 1997, declared a transformation of Mbeya Technical College (MTC) into Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST). MIST provides Technical Education, Research and Consultancy services.

9.1 PROFESSOR – 1 POST - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING/ CIVIL ENGINEERING/ COMPUTER ENGINEERING / ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING / ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

9.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Reviews methodology, content and quality of academic programmes for the purpose of improving quality of graduate;

Teaches up to NTA LEVEL 10 (Doctorate Degree)

Carries out special instructional activities requiring high degree of competence and technological expertise and experience;

Participates in planning, development, controlling and running of the curriculum;

Designs and oversees construction of research equipments;

Assists students in building up their practical and research projects;

Plans and designs training exercises for students;

Conducts consultancy and community service jobs;

Provides on the job training to junior staff;

Supervises and guides postgraduate students and other members of staff;

Carries – out and supervises research activities;

Provides advisory services to the public;

Prepares and publishes technical papers books in a respective field;

Undertakes academic administration duties; and

Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

9.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

PhD in a relevant field eligible for technical teachers’ registration that has proven applicable working experience in research and consultancy of at least twenty (20) years in the industry of and has published at least fifteen (15) peer reviewed papers.

9.1.3 REMUNERATION

9.2 ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR 1 POST - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING/ CIVIL ENGINEERING/ COMPUTER ENGINEERING / ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING / ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

9.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches students up to NTA 10 (Doctorate Degree);

Reviews methodology, content and quality of academic programmes for the purpose of improving quality of graduates;

Carries out special instructional activities requiring high degree of competence and technological expertise and experience;

Guides and supervises undergraduates  in research projects;

Participates in planning, development, controlling and running of the curriculum;

Designs and oversees construction of research equipments;

Assists and guides students in building up their practical and research projects;

Conducts consultancy and community service jobs;

Provides advisory services to the public;

Prepares and publishes technical papers and books in relevant fields;

Undertakes academic administration duties;

Prepares learning resources and designs training exercises for students;

Undertakes individual research, guides junior staff and participates in scientific / academic congregations

Prepares teaching manuals, simulations and case studies for training;

Coaches junior teaching staff;

Assumes managerial leadership roles eg. Coordination of academic programmes or major research projects and consultancy; and

Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor.

9.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Doctorate (PhD) degree in a relevant field and eligible to be registered as a technical teacher with experience in research for at least ten (10) years and must have published at least ten (10) peer reviewed papers;

OR

Doctorate (PhD) degree in a relevant field eligible to be registered as technical teacher with experience in research for at least twenty (20) years and must have published at least twenty (20) consultancy / research reports of academic and professional appreciable depth in a relevant field;

9.2.3 REMUNERATION

9.3 SENIOR LECTURER 1POST - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING/ CIVIL

ENGINEERING/ COMPUTER ENGINEERING / ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING / ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

9.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches students up to NTA level 9 (Masters Degree);

Guides and supervises students in building up their practical and research projects;

Prepare learning resources and designs training excises for students;

Conducts consultancy and community services;

Undertakes individual research and participates in scientific / academic congregations;

Supervises and guides postgraduate students;

Prepares teaching manuals, simulations and case studies for training;

Coaches junior teaching staff;

Assumes managerial leadership roles e.g. Coordination of academic programmes or major research projects and consultancy; and

Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

9.3.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


PhD in relevant field who is eligible for registration as a technical teacher with a working experience in teaching, research and consultancy of at least three (3) years in lectureship position or equivalent in related or allied institution and has published at least three peer reviewed papers;

OR

PhD in relevant field eligible for technical teachers’ registration and has a proven applicable working experience in research and consultancy of at least 10 years in the industry and has published at least five (5) consultancy / research reports of academic and professional appreciable depth in a relevant field;

OR

Masters Degree in a relevant field who is eligible for registration as a technical teacher and has a proven applicable working experience in research and consultancy of at least 20 years in the industry and has published at least ten (10) consultancy / research reports of academic and professional appreciable depth in a relevant field;

OR

PhD Degree in relevant field, who has proven applicable working experience of 10 years and has published at least five (5) consultancy / research reports of academic and professional appreciable depth in the relevant field.

9.3.3 REMUNERATION

9.4 LECTURER – 5 POSTS

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - 1 POST

ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING /TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING - 2 POSTS

9.4.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches up to NTA level 8 for masters degree holders and up to NTA level 9 for PhD holders

Guides and Supervises students in building up their practical and research projects;

Prepares learning resources and designs training exercises for students;

Conducts consultancy and community services;

Develops and reviews existing curriculum;

Undertakes individual research and participates in Scientific/academic congregations;

Prepares teaching manuals, simulations and case studies for training;

Coaches junior teaching staff; and

Performs any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

9.4.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Doctorate (PhD) Degree in relevant fields who is eligible for   registration   as   a   t

echnical teacher.

OR

Registered technical teachers, holders of Masters Degree / PhD in a relevant field who has working experience in a similar position in a related or allied institution.

Or

Masters Degree in a relevant field, who has a proven applicable working experience preferably in research / consultancy of at least ten (10) years in the industry and has published at least five (5) consultancy / research reports of academic and professional appreciable depth in a relevant field.

9.4.3 REMUNERATION

9.5.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Masters Degree in a relevant field from any recognized Institution.

• A minimum GPA of 3.5 in both Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree is required. • Excellent English, written and oral communications skills

• Knowledge in Computer application packages

Assists in conducting tutorial and practical exercises for students under close supervision;

Prepares learning resources for tutorial exercises;

Assists in conducting research under close supervision;

Carries out consultancy and community services under close supervision; and

Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor

9.6.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Bachelor Degree (NTA Level 8) or its equivalent qualification in a relevant field with a minimum GPA of 3.5.

• Excellent English, written and oral communications skills • Knowledge in Computer application packages.

9.6.3 REMUNERATION

9.7 INSTRUCTOR II – 3 POSTS

ARCHITECTURE/ TECHNOLOGY IN ARCHITECTURE - 1 POS

9.7.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches up to NTA level 6 and may assist teaching in higher NTA levels;

Administers examinations for NTA level 6 students;

Conducts and supports research and consultancy works;

Prepares learning resources;

Supervises field training;

Supervises and assist junior staff; and

Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

9.7.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor Degree (NTA Level 8) or equivalent in a relevant field.

9.7.3 REMUNERATION

9.8 ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR II – 6 POSTS

9.8.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches up to NTA level 4 and may assist teaching in higher NTA levels;

Prepares learning resources;

Assist in carrying out consultancy and community service;

Assist in conducting practical exercises for students in department under close

supervision up to level 5;

Prepares material for practical exercises;

Carries consultancy and service job assignments under close supervision;

Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

9.8.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) or equivalent in a relevant field.

9.8.3 REMUNERATION

9.9 JANITOR II – 1 POST

9.9.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In charge of all rooms, stores and common rooms in a hall of residence

Supervises hall attendants in his/her hall of residence.

Enforces students’ rules and regulations.

Answers questions from students, delegates and other visitors who may require certain information pertaining to his/her hall of residence.

Maintains proper residence records.

Ensures Security properly in and around the hall of residence

Performs any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

9.9.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Diploma in Social work /Education /Home Economics / Community Development or equivalent qualification with at least 3 years experience in students’ affairs or related field.

9.9.3 REMUNERATION
