Broad Purpose of the Job
The Manager, Food Security and Nutrition will co-ordinate and provide policy and strategic direction to the regional food security and nutrition programme in order to achieve the highest level of food security and nutrition for the population of the ECSA member states.
Specific Duties
Providing leadership in establishing regional policies and strategies on food security and nutrition for the ECSA region.
Managing the networking of country focal points in ECSA member states for the exchange of information and implementation of the ECSA Food and Nutrition programme activities.
Overseeing the collection, compiling and maintenance of databases on the food security and nutrition status of the ECSA member states in order to facilitate complementary interaction with the Secretariat.
Monitoring the progress and evaluating the performance and impact of the food security and nutrition programme, and informing management and stakeholders on the progress in programme implementation.
Liaising with international organisations related to food security and nutrition to gain an understanding of new and best approaches in food security and nutrition that are adaptable to the ECSA member states.
Manage the repackaging and dissemination of new and best approaches in food security and nutrition policies and interventions to ECSA member states.
Mobilising resources from ECSAs’ partners through the development of programme/project proposals that meet the funding requirements of partners.
Organizing meetings and workshops at international, regional and country level and advocating for better food security and nutrition policies and practices.
Participating in scientific fora through presentation of papers and discussion of the performance of the food security and nutrition programme.
Providing technical inputs towards the establishment of a sustainable food security and nutrition training programme to improve capacity for food security and nutrition interventions in member states.
Participating in corporate planning and institutional strengthening activities of ECSA.
Education, professional qualifications and relevant working experience
The applicant should have a basic degree in nutrition or dietetics and a master’s degree in human nutrition. He/she should have at least 10 years experience in nutrition work, especially in the public sector. Experience with other sectors and international organisations will be an added advantage.
Skills required
The applicant should be computer literate, with good public relations and communication skills. He/she should be a visionary and analytical thinker with the ability to work with various sectors in government, private organisations and non-governmental organisations. The applicant should be able to work under pressure to meet strict time deadlines.
Age: Applicants must be between 35 - 55 years of age.
Remuneration Package:
An attractive package will be offered to the right candidate. The package details may be obtained on request from the Director General, ECSA Health Community, Arusha, Tanzania
Contract Appointment:
This is a three year performance based contract renewable once upon mutual agreement between the employee and the employer.
