Reports to : The Regional Engineer
Applicants must have
5 years plus experience in fiber optic maintenance and installation testing
Competence in using standard fiber optic preparation and splicing equipment, and OTDRs
Experience using standard electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, function generators, and spectrum analyzers
Experience working in a fast paced, constantly expanding and changing environment
Excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity, high attention to detail
Ability to use technical terms to communicate verbally and in writing
Good organization, multi-tasking, time management and documentation skills
Skill with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Solid Works a plus
Must be Willing to travel long distances
Must be flexible and able to change as business needs change.
Education background
A Minimum Degree/Higher Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications or related field
A certificate in Fiber Optic technology is added advantage.
Skills in Fiber optic splicing
Microwave transmission skills is an added advantage
A valid driving license
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fiber Optic Technician/ Engineer performs optical and electronic acceptance tests.
The Technician/ Engineer is responsible for field inspection (periodic/non-periodic), transmission system.
Monitoring, assisting, and improving all aspects of safety, quality, productivity, inventory and delivery in his/her work area
Installation of new cable lines, both underground and on telephone poles, and maintenance of existing cables, including evaluation tests and repairing old or malfunctioning cables.
Cutting and splicing fiber optic cables, locate problem areas and performing other repairs as needed.
Installation and maintenance of network systems for private lines and determine solutions for any issues preventing the service from operating normally.
