Assignment Name: Consultancy for Mobile Web Application Developer
Background:
This year marks the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the OAU-AU and events are alreadyunderway to mark this cornerstone in the Africa's history. Several events have already been undertakenincluding the launch of the yearlong celebrations on 25 May 2013, during the recently concluded 21stOrdinary Session of the Assembly of the African Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa.Several other events and activities are planned as part of a yearlong programme to commemorate thismomentous occasion.
The overall objective of the programme is to reflect on the past fifty years, wherewe are today and where Africa wants to be in fifty years. The celebrations also offer an opportunity toshift existing narratives on the continent and give a fresher meaning to Pan Africanism and AfricanRenaissance, through the implementation of a Implement a vibrant communications strategy to promoteplanned continent-wide and global events, using modern communications tools.
The AU Commission has developed a concept note on the implementation of the yearlong programmeof the 50th anniversary of the OAU-AU. The concept note is guided by the project document that wasapproved by the 14th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council held on 9 April 2013, in AddisAbaba.Commencing in June 2013, the OAU-AU 50th anniversary yearlong programme runs over a period ofeleven months and provides opportunities for multi-level and multi-stakeholder participation.
The Commission has also put in place a special dedicated unit known as the ‘Situation Room' to supportthe relevant implementing departments in the planning, coordination and communications around theyearlong 50th anniversary events and activities.
Job Overall Description:
The Consultant will be working with the Web Communication team to develop and deliver mobileapplications across multiple device platforms. Design, code, test, debug, and implement mobileapplications across multiple device platforms. Work in an agile software development environment.Consultant will be expected to work closely with the Web Administrator to meet aggressive deadlines.Consultants must possess a high sense of responsibility as well as an excellent level of conceptual andanalytical thinking. The Consultant should be there when needed, team-oriented with excellent oral and1written communication skills. They must provide regular feedback and consistently meet projectdeadlines.Location: The consultant can work off-shore but must guarantee daily communication with AU 50thanniversary team and mainly the Web administrator of the PSD to ensure that each milestone is fullyachieved.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Build prototypes at tech scoping stage of projects with focus on usability features
- Develop mobile applications for multiple mobile OS (mainly iOS and Android).
- Write coherent organized code and be able to work as a part of a dynamic team.
- Integrate UI with backend services and existing websites.
- Deliver across the entire app life cycle –concept, design, build, deploy, test, release to app storesand support
- Optimize performance of the appsUse the latest industry trends in the mobile technologies (Preferably Sencha touch Frameworkand Phonegap)
Deliverables:
1. A mobile applications for the OAU-AU 50th Anniversary (must be compatible with Android and iOSplatforms) and must carry the following features:
- Must contain new alerts,
- A calendar function
- A map search function to filter local events of the campaign by country
- A function to stream multimedia (including videos, audio and photos)
- A user-friendly function to view PDF and PPT docs
- A camera tool to take a series of four consecutive pictures in passport format in colour or b/w which canthen easily be shared through the social media.
2. Integration into existing 50th Anniversary website
Required skills:
- Minimum 3+ years of solid mobile Application Development experience for iOS and Android
- Published examples of mobile applications on the App store or the Android market
- Ability to multi task and good time management skills
- Ability to work on their own and as a part of the teamStrong
- Experience in Mobile User Interface Design and Development
- Experience with Server Side Programming and Databases
- Exposure related to security aspects of mobile client architecture and development desired
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to liaise with various stakeholders
Qualifications
a. Education
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, informationsystems or related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experiencemay be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
b. Language
- Fluency in English is required. French will be also appreciated.Duration of Assignment: Two-Four weeks
- Estimated date of Commencement: One week from the deadline for CV submission.
Timelines for completion of tasks
Day 1 – Preparation & pre-production meeting (client will provide all the raw materials needed)
Day 3 – Conceptualisation and approval of 3 designs
Day 5 - Mock–up and presentation of approved design
Day 9 – Technical set up and coding
Day 11 – Presentation, testing and review
Day 13 – Training of AU web admin team/staff
Day 14 – Launch of application
