ActionAid is an international organisation, working with over 25 million people in more than 40 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice.
The purpose of this role is to manage the EC funded multi country project on Women’s Rights to land, ensuring effective delivery of the project in line with the original proposal and with donor requirements.
Action Aid International has been implementing a three year (2010-2012), multi country project, funded by the European Commission aimed at enhancing poor and excluded women’s access and control over land, as a strategy for empowerment and fighting hunger. The project is being implemented in Guatemala, India, and Sierra Leone, plus an international component. There are five main project result areas;
• Increased capacity of women’s groups to develop and lead advocacy on Women’s Rights to land • Increased participation of landless women’s movements in policy and legal frameworks development at local and national levels • Increased awareness of rights and use of the justice system • Creation of a regional alliance of movements and groups, and • Increased knowledge and empirical evidence of linkages between land access/control and women’s empowerment
In each country ActionAid International works with identified partners and women’s groups which are at very local levels, who have long standing experience in working on WRL.
Desired Skills & Experience • Demonstrated skills in managing international/multi-country donor funded projects • At least four years management experience • Sound knowledge of women’s land rights issues • Experience in financial management and budgeting • Experience of negotiating with donors • Skills and experience in delivering projects to high quality and to donor requirements • Excellent negotiation skills • Demonstrated facilitation skills • Demonstrated hands on experience of programme development, planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation# • Experience of reporting (narrative and financial) to an institutional or major trust and foundation donor • Excellent writing/ communication and computer skills– writing clearly in different ways for different audiences. • A self-starter, requiring little supervision to prioritise tasks and produce high-quality work under pressure; • Experience of managing an extremely complex workload and a proven ability of planning and prioritising effectively; • Strong experience of team leading and an ability to provide support while being able to independently take decisions; • Experience of working in a diverse team and build good relationships with people at all levels and cross-culturally; • An ability to absorb and analyse information; • Excellent inter-personal and problem-solving skills and diplomacy;
