Akilah is developing a model for a network of campuses across Africa that will offer transformational business education for young women. Students are prepared to succeed as leaders and entrepreneurs by completing a rigorous 2-year Diploma in Business that includes a longer school year, mandatory community service, leadership & ethics courses, internships, and a personalized counseling program. Akilah develops market-relevant curriculum in close partnership with the private sector to ensure job placement. Akilah has successfully completed two academic years and now in our third year, we are experiencing overwhelming interest from potential future students, and strong support from the private sector, our students’ future employers. Akilah has developed a reputation in the Rwandan community for creating an environment of excellence that prepares students to succeed in a professional career path while emphasizing leadership development and entrepreneurial skills. Akilah offers a 2-year Business Diploma, with a major in either Hospitality Management or Entrepreneurship.
Responsibilities
This position provides an unparalleled opportunity for an individual with superior critical thinking, writing, and relationship-building skills to make a significant impact while gaining an in-depth understanding of the Akilah Institute. The Special Assistant will work closely with the CEO to provide critical, high-level support while also assisting with the launch of a new regional Leadership Program funded by the Packard Foundation, and IIE.
Support to the CEO
-Serving as confidential assistant to the CEO in handling documents concerning sensitive or financial matters; ensuring that all activities involving the CEO operate smoothly and effectively; providing administrative support for the CEO, including making travel arrangements, scheduling meetings, maintaining the CEO’s calendar, coordinating mailings; and working on special projects as needed.
-Assist with donor communications, event planning, and marketing. Attending meetings with visiting donors and local partners, funders, and government officials as needed
-Assist with the development of in-house strategic planning and related operations materials; assist in the organization and preparation of materials for Board of Directors and staff meetings
- Manage the communications for the CEO, including making judgments regarding priority, substantial proofreading and editing of content, and taking appropriate action. Create or review special reports, presentations, proposals, and agendas, including development or evaluation of content to ensure alignment with the vision and mission of the Institute.
ACE Program
-Assist with all logistics and programming support for the launch of the new ACE (African Centers of Excellence for Womens Leadership) grant at Akilah
-Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and local partners
-Support Akilah Leadership coordinator to implement new training modules into the curriculum
Criteria
-English fluency
-Masters degree preferred
-Strong communication skills, written and verbal
-Deep understanding and commitment to the Akilah values, passionate about education and womens leadership development
-Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
-Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
-Ability to work independently and with teams
-Comfortable interacting in diverse environments
