ABOUT RI: Relief International (RI), an international relief and development agency with cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development, seeks a Livelihoods Technical Coordinator for its program in South Sudan.
SUMMARY: The Livelihoods Technical Coordinator will be responsible for the start-up, ongoing management, continuing development, and daily supervision of all activities under RI’s livelihoods program for returnees in South Sudan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Designs work plan and manages implementation of agriculture and livelihoods interventions in South Sudan.
• Ensures project targets are met according to work plan deadlines, and that the project is adequately resourced to carry out effective programming. Oversees course correction with other senior staff as needed.
• Conducts community assessments to identify critical requirements for program interventions with a particular focus on returnees and host communities.
• Leads the development strategy for South Sudan agriculture and livelihoods activities, with emphasis on response to perceived needs indicated by communities and beneficiaries.
• Plans and implements emergency interventions in beneficiary communities as needed.
• Works with the Country Team, operations, finance, and security staff to ensure that all program activities adhere to RI and international standards.
• Conducts and designs agriculture and livelihoods activities with the utmost sensitivity for the safety and well-being of beneficiaries and national staff and with regard to the political context.
• Provides capacity-building for national staff: technical support, organizing training, and preparing a training schedule for agriculture and livelihoods staff.
• Ensures that RI provides quality services that meet Sphere and other international standards.
• Submits monthly and quarterly reports by collection of information and data from the field, data analysis, and report documentation.
• Seeks funding support from local donors in coordination with the Country Office.
• Manages sector budget and personnel in line within RI field procedures and Code of Conduct.
QUALIFICATIONS: • Significant (at least 5 years) experience working with an INGO in increasing positions of reporting and responsibility.
• Experience (2 years) developing and implementing Agriculture and Livelihoods sector activities.
• A bachelor’s degree in development, agriculture, or related fields a must. Post-graduate degree is desirable.
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
• Logistical planning and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with data collection and analysis strongly required.
• Experience living and working in dynamic, insecure environments and with local communities.
• Ability to live and function at a high capacity within a collaborative organizational structure.
• Ability to live and work from within a remote post.
• Understanding of the political and cultural context in South Sudan and the wider Horn of Africa and a strong interest in working in the region.
• Demonstrated written and oral English communication skills (must be able to provide an independently created and relevant writing sample).
• Demonstrated budget and expense management skills.
