The Association of African Universities (AAU), an international non-governmental organization (INGO), with headquarters in Accra, Ghana, was set up in November 1967 by universities in Africa to promote cooperation among themselves and between them and the international academic community. The AAU wishes to announce a vacancy at its Secretariat in its Communication and Services Department.
Purpose of Post
This successful candidate will report to the Head of Communication and Services, and will be responsible for the following tasks:
Main Responsibilities
- Proofread drafts, prepare layouts and Camera-Ready Copies of publications for print
- Follow up the printing of publications
- Facilitate the dissemination of publications, both electronic and print
- Facilitate the promotion and marketing of AAU publications as well as programmes and services
- Keep up-to-date records of publications (production, distribution, stock)
- Assist in the collection, classification, cataloguing, shelving and electronic processing of documents/publications for user-access through AAU’s Information and Online information Resource Centre
- Assist in the dissemination of AAU corporate information
- Facilitate compilation of information on higher education in Africa
- Perform other duties as may be required by the head of department or Secretary-General.
- Familiarity with desktop publishing programmes (PageMaker, Quark Express, Publisher, Photoshop)
- Familiarity with layout design (text, covers, brochures, posters, etc.)
- Promotion and Marketing skills
- Classification, cataloguing, shelving skills
- Familiarity with Internet Resources
- Familiarity with online publishing
- Excellent proficiency in written English (knowledge in French an advantage)
- Demonstrable ability to work independently and with limited supervision;
- Demonstrable ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
- Demonstrable ability to initiate innovations and deliver quality outputs.
Profile
Masters degree (or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years relevant experience) in English Language, Information/Library Science or any other related area.
Duration of Position
The contract will be for an initial period of three (4) years, subject to a probationary period of six (6) months, and may be renewed.
Conditions of Employment
- The AAU offers an attractive remuneration package, including a monthly inducement allowance paid in US Dollars.
- The candidate will be entitled to annual leave of twenty-one (21) working days.
