Programme Manager: Conflict Prevention and Risk Analysis

The Conflict Prevention and Risk Analysis (CPRA) Division of the ISS provides continental conflict analysis and early warning to compliment the early warning mechanisms of the African Union. The CPRA Division is comprised of regional CPRA Programme hubs in Pretoria, Nairobi and Addis Ababa, with plans for a further hub in the ISS’s newest office in Dakar. The CPRA Programme Manager in Nairobi is currently vacant.
The Programme Manager of CPRA Nairobi will report to the Divisional Head CPRA and will be responsible for all aspects of programme management including: fund-raising and donor liaison, financial management, delivery of project outputs, staff management, quality control over the training, research and policy products of the programme, monitoring and evaluation and external engagement.
The successful candidate will be experienced in African conflict analysis, have a sound understanding of African economic, security and governance challenges, including ideally risk analysis experience, an effective network in Eastern African, The Horn and the Great Lakes Region, a strong record of publications, policy work, research team management and fund-raising.
Requirements:

A senior person with proven professional competence, with a minimum of a Masters degree in international relations, African politics, or other relevant field, preferably a PhD.

At least 10 years relevant work experience within a policy, politics, research or professional environment with increasing management responsibilities

At least five years of management experience

Excellent financial management and human resource management skills

Excellent research and writing skills, a record of relevant publications

Strong track record in fund-raising and donor liaison

A strong team leader with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in cooperation with governments and civil society

Experience in providing direct policy support to governments

Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal

Fluency in French, Arabic and/or Portuguese will be an advantage

Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

Willingness to travel extensively regionally and internationally
Salary: Salary commensurate with ISS internal salary structure.
