Description: | The Country Director will provide leadership to the IMA offices in Juba, Malakal, and Bor. This position will focus on building partnerships that will enable IMA to expand its engagement in core priority health areas, including, health systems strengthening, disease management and control programs, and nutrition. The Country Director will supervise the Chief of Party, the Director of Finance and Administration, and will be responsible for handling all in-country HR responsibilities. The CD will relate to various donors and partners to build relationships for IMA and expand the current portfolio in Republic of South Sudan. Working with HQ and in-country staff, the CD will set up and support the overall organizational strategy for program development opportunities for IMA World Health in Republic of South Sudan. |
Duties: | New Business Development 1. Provide leadership on new business development in Republic of South Sudan, focused in four areas: • Proactive identification of funding opportunities, • Directing and managing support for the development and submission of proposals to major bilateral, multilateral and other donor agencies including Foundations, • Environmental scanning/intelligence gathering, networking with donors and key stakeholders • Keeping abreast of trends in the health and development sector, coordinating strategic guidance on key program development areas. 2. Work with the leadership of the Program Department and Director of Business Development to strategically assess programmatic needs, identify priorities for funding and pursue potential donors compatible with IMA World Health’s strategic priorities for Republic of South Sudan. 3. Manage, lead and coordinate new business opportunities, and the development of proposals and concept notes with the Vice-President of Programs, Republic of South Sudan Senior Program Officer, the Business Development Team and other appropriate staff in Republic of South Sudan and New Windsor, coordinate corporate decision-making around development and bidding priorities. 4. Build networks with colleagues both within and outside IMA World Health to identify new opportunities for innovative programming and potential funding sources to support the strategic priorities of IMA World Health Republic of South Sudan country Programs. 5. Provide leadership and direction to the faith-based strategic thinking and work planning processes to ensure that FBO perspectives are brought to bear in project design and implementation. 6. Analyze and track donor trends at the country levels. Management 1. Provide leadership and direction to IMA Republic of South Sudan staff in all functional areas including: Program, Finance, and Administration 2. Oversee the collection and compilation of reports for Republic of South Sudan programs. 3. Responsible for budgetary oversight for the office management and designated projects under the purview of the office. 4. Demonstrated effectiveness coordinating complex schedules. Outstanding organizational and team-building skills. 5. Promote sensitive and capacity building approaches for working with FBOs. Relationship Building: 1. Represent IMA at meetings with donors, South Sudanese Ministry of Health, Bilateral agencies, cluster meetings, etc. 2. Advocate for the interests of IMA constituencies; faith-based partners and IMA’s US member agencies. 3. Represent IMA in National and Regional forums as well as on relevant committees and task forces. |
Qualifications: | Qualifications Required: 1. Graduate degree – MBA, MPH or other related. 2. Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience working in international public health including experience leading a field operation overseas. Strong program and business development orientation including demonstrated ability to think plan and implement strategically and competitively in the development of programs and proposals. 3. Minimum three years’ experience working with technical/subject matter experts and technical material drafted by scientific/technical subject matter experts. 4. Successful track record in program and proposal development and writing for a variety of donors including foundations, USAID and other bilateral and multilateral agencies. 5. Knowledge of World Bank, USAID, DIFD, and other bilateral and multilateral funding agencies, and private foundations and in particular their funding priorities, proposal guidelines and procurement procedures. 6. Significant programmatic and technical knowledge about public health in developing countries, specific knowledge of South Sudanese health context a plus. 7. Strong networking skills. 8. Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. Very strong communication skills especially the ability to write compelling and winning proposal and the ability to represent the organization professionally and convincingly with donors, partner agencies, and other external clients. 9. Understanding of financial, administrative, and human resource functions in a public health organization. 10. Ability and flexibility to adjust schedules and priorities to meet proposal deadlines, juggle multiple assignments, and manage shifting priorities. 11. Proven attention to accuracy and details. 12. Cross-cultural sensitivity a must. 13. Experience leading and managing a professional and support staff in a multicultural, multi-linguistic environment. 14. Extensive in-country travel may be required, with occasional travel outside of Republic of South Sudan. 15. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Internet fluency a plus. 16. Willingness to support IMA World Health’s Mission. Qualifications (Preferred): 1. Community Health Programs Experience – Understands determinants of community health and how to build the capacity of communities, health-related agencies and academic centers to function as equal partners in community-based research, service and education. 5. Decision-Maker – Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills. Capable of directing and managing change, inspiring teamwork and high performing teams. 6. Strategic Planning and Integration – Demonstrates the knowledge and capacity to foster development of a common vision. Identifies a path to meet strategic goals by developing short and long-range plans that are appropriately comprehensive, creative, realistic and effective in meeting goals. Exhibits leadership in integrating planning efforts across work units. |
