ChildFund – Zambia is recruiting a Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID funded program that will improve food security of poor rural households in Zambia’s Eastern Province, particularly women. The project will work with rural households to transform agricultural production systems, enhance nutrition and improve access to finance and increased economic opportunities.
The successful candidate will report to the National Director and will be based in Lusaka with frequent travels to the field.
Summary:
Responsible for strategic leadership and managerial oversight of the administrative, programmatic, technical and operational aspects of the Project. She/he oversees the day- to- day work of the project and is responsible for the effective use and deployment of staff and financial resources to achieve project targets. This position will oversee partners as well as capacity building of staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for strategic plan development, implementation and outcomes, resource planning and mobilization, budget development, human resources, programs and overall management of the project.
- Represent ChildFund in formal and informal relationships with USAID and other stakeholders as appropriate
- Responsible for delivering effective grant management and compliance within the regulations including timely submission of all plans, reviews, reports and financial documentation required by USAID and other various stakeholders
- Ensure that the Project meets all USAID agreements requirements related to project management, staff supervision, administration and implementation of planned project milestones
- Provide direct technical oversight, including field visits to ensure high quality project implementation
- Disseminate project results and lessons learned to scale-up successful approaches in other countries and regions
- As a senior staff, contributes to regional and organizational wide initiatives to support achievement of core intent and outcomes and evolution of ChildFund
Required Skills
- 5-8 years’ experience as COP and/or DCOP managing multi-million dollar and multi-year USAID funded programs.
- At least 10 years of demonstrated experience implementing innovative poverty reduction and /or nutrition programs with a focus on women empowerment, PLWA, OVC’s and caregivers. Familiarity with community based microfinance intervention couples with good understanding of the USAID Feed the Future program
- Working knowledge of USAID’s grant management rules and regulations, institutional capacity building; and working collaboratively with a broad range of government officials, international donors and implementing partners and private sector stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating development activities.
- Experience in the management of large institutional grants preferred
- Proven track record of strong management skills with complex programs and a large number of staff.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including the ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, social and political issues.
- Ability to pragmatically solve problems, plan a course of action using analytical, conceptual, strategic and forward thinking abilities to achieve an effective resolution.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in such areas as: project, budget and resource management.
- Strong leadership skills in such areas as: fostering teamwork; developing and motivating others; managing change; conflict resolution; initiative and flexibility.
- Effective under pressure, results oriented and proactive with the ability to multi-task.
Qualifications:
- MA degree or above in community development/social science or relevant discipline.
