The Kenya Country Program seeks to fill the position of Strategic Communications Advisor who will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction in the area of communication including health communication for the portfolio of projects being implemented by PATH in Kenya. S/he will provide technical assistance to the range of projects to ensure that all communication activities are based on structural BCC theories, are evidence-informed and designed for maximum impact and reach. S/He will provide support to as a member of various project teams and work closely with management as well as technical staff. The Advisor will support the project directors, advising on strategy and development and implementation of key deliverables. This position requires senior management level skills with a passion for social impact, strong leadership and communication, networking and partnership building skills. Specific roles and responsibilities will include the following:
- Provide technical guidance on project strategies, including strategic vision and direction for programmatic activities, which will include assisting in the design of communication and media strategy development.
- Interact and liaise closely with project managers to ascertain capacities and skills of project team members that require support and map out methods of building such capacity.
- Work with the project teams to develop programmatic work plans and budgets and ensure timely reporting and compliance with PATH policies and donor requirements.
- Provide technical input on the implementation to ensure all deliverables are being met per donor and partner requirements.
- Work with M&E staff to design and implement implementation research that aims to provide evidence around health communication approaches.
- Liaise with international organizations, government counterparts, and implementing partners to build relationships, nurture partnerships and create broader reach for projects. Assist project managers to strategize about bigger partner involvement and address problems or miscommunication.
- Act as liaison and representative for PATH on key government committees or other institutions such as partner working groups.
- Assist the project managers with regular reports on programmatic endeavors, ensuring adequate information flow which includes updates at staff meetings and other meetings.
- A strategic thinker with analytical capability to identify powerful insights and develop them into compelling and program approaches.
- Ability to view the long term, strategic vision and guide operations within that framework.
- Must have the ability to interact with diverse partners at high levels both in the public and private sectors and to represent the organization at donor meetings
- Ability to establish networks and build partnerships with key players in the public health arena including government.
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism
- Ability to prioritize, handle tight deadlines and balance multiple tasks and work with minimum supervision
- Strong communication skills including writing, presenting and facilitating large groups.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, verbal and written communication, and excellent presentation skills required.
- Should be well-versed with new age communication platforms
- Strong working knowledge of computer programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally
- Must be a self-motivated professional with the ability to work efficiently, with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- An eye for detail and strong interpersonal skills a must
- Must be a self-starter with a collaborative and engaging work ethic and a creative flair
- Demonstrated skills as a team player, team builder, and problem solver and supervisor
- Masters degree in social sciences, public health or related fields.
- More than 10 years of work experience demonstrating understanding of HIV, youth, public health and/or wider international development issues is desirable.
- Experience in developing and writing communication strategies.
- Extensive demonstrable experience in behavior change communication programs and mass media campaign development and implementation including theoretical foundations and evidence-base.
- At least 10 years supervisory experience, and demonstrated capacity for leading teams and developing, supporting and mentoring staff.
- Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and/or fundraising is an added benefit.
- Experience in Financial management and budgeting
