A vacancy exists within the Continental Africa Region's (CAR) Planning & Business Development Function, for an Open Pit Specialist Mining Engineer. The purpose of the role will be to provide project study, business optimization and mine planning excellence to CAR through the Mining Studies Team. This role will play a key part in delivering the consistent achievement of the company's objectives.
The Continental Africa Region - Mining Studies Team has the following overall purpose:
- Coordinate the development, establishment and application of the mining study standards and guidelines across CAR. The process is to be fully aligned with Business Process Framework (BPF) and System for People (SP) Principles.
- Supply specialist services to the sites and region to support the required mine studies process.
- Provide advice on technical mine planning and mining engineering aspects for decision making by the CAR Executive and Senior Managers.
- Monitor the Health of the Mining Studies Discipline within CAR and provide advice to relevant Managers in support of maintaining and developing Discipline Health.
- Provide specialist advice to the business units / mine sites on operational strategy execution across a wide range of activities, to support business optimization opportunities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Form a key part of the specialist mining engineering team within the CARO Mining Studies group based in Johannesburg.
- Develop cross-functional relationships with corporate, regional and operational staff to ensure that the department provides a quality service to the mine sites.
- Take up assignments as directed by management to support the goals of the Mining Studies team.
- Provide a mining engineering / planning service to the various mine sites to assist in meeting the required levels of planning, design and scheduling diligence through guidance, mentoring of the performance of specific tasks as required by each site and directed through the Mining Studies team.
- Achieve and maintain high standards of quality, safety, health and environmental performance through leadership and example.
- Ensure all activities / tasks are conducted according to the requirements of the Business Process Framework (BPF) and System for People (SP), and specific mining studies standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Mining Engineering degree or equivalent, and preferably a business or management qualification.
- Minimum 5 years operational experience on medium to large scale mechanised mines.
- Open Pit mining experience essential.
- Approximately 6 to 10 years mine engineering and planning experience.
- Previous experience in operational, strategic and study work would be advantageous.
