REPORTS TO: MANAGING DIRECTOR
JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for contractual management of Songas’ business, maintenance of key
commercial and contractual relationships, provision of advice to the management team
and board of directors and compliance of the business with its contractual commitments.
The role has a strategic focus and is involved with high level business decisions and
planning.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibility for managing Songas’ relationships, rights and obligations under
the company’s key commercial agreements and the laws of Tanzania.
Provision of decision support and analysis expertise to enhance decision
making, adding value and positively impacting business performance.
Monitor industry legislative developments, develop and implement strategic
changes in order to maintain compliance and maximise business performance
Manage the company’s compliance with all Project Agreements and key
statutory matters.
Manage Songas’ regulatory compliance, including all reporting and tariff related
matters.
Actively managing Songas key project related agreements (including the PPA),
highlighting any possible areas for re-negotiation & working with key
stakeholders to minimise risks to the project and maximise business
performance.
Participating in contract negotiations including acquiring and supervising
outside legal advice where necessary.
To develop & build good relationships with key stakeholders such as
TANESCO, Minister of Energy & other government / regulatory officials etc.
To develop and maintain an excellent working relationships with the plant
management team.
Deliver training on commercial matters to the wider Songas’ team
Managing the provision of energy sector and country specific risk analysis.
Maintain Songas’ Risk Register and develop strategies to realise commercial
opportunities and minimise threats to the business.
To ensure the business is sufficiently insured to meet Globeleq guidelines and
requirements laid down by the Project Documents
Ensure the successful conclusion of any insurance claims.
Co-ordinate with head-office support groups (e.g. E&O, HR, Legal) as required
ensuring relevant individuals are fully briefed on Songas matters
Identify and execute new transactions for Songas, provide commercial support
and advice to other areas of the business on an as needed basis.
Complex financial modelling;
Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information
Other reasonable duties requested from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Masters Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, finance or
accounting.
Substantial experience in the private power industry and/or corporate finance
and/or in a similar relevant environment.
Leadership qualities as demonstrated through previous line/team management
experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills both in English and Swahili.
Excellent business acumen.
Good computer skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and e-mail.
Strong analytical skills.
Demonstrated business development and financial skills
Ability to work independently and as part of overall team structure.
