Chief Economist Position
The Central Bank of Ireland seeks to appoint a Chief Economist. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic organisation at a time of significant change for the Central Bank and the wider economic environment.
The Chief Economist will report to the Deputy Governor (Central Banking) and be a member of the Senior management Committee. This is a senior position with managerial responsibilities covering economic and monetary policy analysis and research, financial stability and the collection and analysis of financial statistics.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
• Advising the Governor and the Deputy Governor on a broad range of economic, financial and monetary policy issues and overseeing the Bank’s Financial Stability function;
• Planning and prioritising research on economic and financial issues pertinent to the Bank’s responsibilities;
• Presenting the Bank’s views on economic and financial issues to government agencies, the ESCB, the IMF, the OECD, other economic bodies, the press, etc.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate competence in addressing a wide range of economic and financial issues. Sound judgement on policy issues will be essential together with a record of success in the development of results focused teams, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and inspire a large group of professionals, across four divisions, by communicating a clear vision and sense of purpose. A high level of academic achievement in economics is a prerequisite for the position. The ideal candidate will have experience in central banking coupled with experience of academia or the financial services industry.
The term of appointment is five years, which may be renewed.
