this selection process for both fixed-term established and general temporary assistance posts.
Duties & Responsibilities
The International Criminal Court is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Court Reporter
- English at
P2 grade. Candidates will be required to attend an interview. Only those candidates who perform satisfactorily
at the interview will be invited to sit tests.
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Court Management Section, the incumbent shall:
1. Take verbatim records of court or other proceedings in real-time, using computer-aided stenotype tools and
find solutions to interruptions or incidents which could potentially affect the quality of transcripts;
2. Edit draft real-time transcripts, verifying accuracy against audio recordings;
3. Transcribe audio-visual material as required;
4. Edit and format transcripts as required;
5. Finalise and certify transcripts as official records by set deadlines;
6. Research and verify spelling, references and citations;
7. Create and maintain dictionaries, glossaries and databases;
8. Maintain security of and safeguard transcripts;
9. Monitor and oversee the production and quality of transcripts of court hearings;
10. Coordinate the provision of transcripts produced by external court reporters;
11. Perform other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications
Qualifications: Completed secondary education. Post-secondary specialised training in court reporting, followed by
intensive training in the profession;
Certification as a court reporter by passing a registered professional reporters' examination is essential;
Advanced machine shorthand of a minimum speed of 200 words per minute and a minimum typing speed of 50
words per minute, with a high degree of accuracy;
Ability to use computer-aided transcription system in a Microsoft Windows environment, the equipment being
provided by the Court;
Willingness to learn to use new software in the event that the candidate has experience of using software
which is not used by the Court;
Excellent knowledge of legal terminology and Latin legal expressions;
Excellent knowledge of grammar and of editing skills to produce grammatically correct transcripts;
Ability to troubleshoot technical problems related to stenotype equipment and to work independently;
Excellent planning and organisational skills;
Accountability, excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work under high pressure, meeting tight deadlines and to maintain a fast typing speed and a high
level of accuracy, alertness and concentration;
Ability to work in a team;
Good hearing;
Ability to comply with organisational regulations and rules;
At least eight years experience, preferably in a courtroom and/or international environment. Real-time experience
is required. Experience of working in a team would be an advantage.
All candidates will be required to sit a stenotype, general knowledge and spelling test.
KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES
Mother tongue profiency in English. Knowledge of French or of another official language of the Court (Arabic,
Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is highly desirable

the personal history form and a criminal record check;
