to engage churches and people of good will in advocacy for peace, justice, equality, and human rights
in the Sudan, and to enable member churches to acquire relevant skills and resources for ministering
in world and service to the Sudanese People in general, and the disadvantaged in particular, in multifaith,
multi-ethnic and conflict situations.
The Sudan Council of Churches is looking for a Sudanese national for the position of Senior Programme Manager ¡¥Oil and Peace in Sudan¡¦
The Oil and Peace in the Sudan programme was established in September 2008 in partnership with
the European Coalition on Oil in Sudan (ECOS). The programme strives to support local communities
in oil regions to defend their interests and rights and build relationships between the communities,
local authorities and the companies. In addition, the programme advocates for effective Government
policies to ensure that Sudan¡¦s oil wealth contributes to peace, justice and equitable development. It
tries to achieve these goals through local awareness and capacity building; lobby and advocacy;
research and information sharing. The programme is maintaining a wide range of partners both
inside and outside Sudan.
General
The Senior Programme Manager is responsible for implementation and continual development of the
programme. The work entails regular internal travelling, and occasional international travelling.
Key Responsibilities:
„h Development and implementation of programmes to support local communities
„h Research into the oil industry¡¦s impact and into identifying options that ensure a positive
impact ¡V through consultations with communities
„h Follow-up of existing projects in Unity State and Northern Upper Nile
„h Organise trainings and workshops
„h Lobby and advocacy versus authorities (all levels) and companies
„h Manage consultants
„h Accountability regarding donors, communities and the SCC
Experience and Knowledge:
„h At least 7 years of professional working experience, including in executive functions
„h Graduate degree. Knowledge of Law, Geology, Environmental Studies or Social Sciences are a
plus
„h Experience with academic research and field research

Location: SCC Office Juba, Sudan
Reporting to: SCC National Peace Officer
Duration of Employment: This is a 1 -year appointment (possibly renewable) with a 3 month
probationary period.
