Operations Manager
(Nairobi based with frequent travel to field offices)
12 month contract
The Operations Manager will assist the Operations Director at field level to coordinate the successful implementation of all programme activities in Save the Children UK’s five operational areas namely Wajir East, Habaswein, Mandera, Dadaab and Eldoret.
S/he will ensure that programmes are implemented efficiently and effectively, and support the field teams by providing technical backstopping and operational guidance. The incumbent will also be the key managerial link between Nairobi and Area office field teams; will monitor and support Area Managers in implementing SCUK project management systems and guidelines with Area based programme staff to ensure smooth implementation of approved projects in accordance with donor and/ or SCUK requirements.
Person Specification:
- An advanced degree in social sciences or business administration with at least 5- 7 years experience in Operations management of development programmes;
- Substantial experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and managing grants;
- Knowledge of major institutional donors rules and regulations;
- Experience in setting up management systems including planning, monitoring running costs, pooling, developing replacement strategies;
- Excellent management and communications skills;
- Ability to establish partnerships and networks;
- Ability to work independently to a high professional standard;
- Sensitive to the cultural & political environment;
- Knowledge of the North Eastern context will be a plus;
- Willingness to travel 60% of the time to field offices to carry out programme field visits and assessments and assist as needed in humanitarian emergency response.
Food Security & Livelihoods Manager
(1 position based in Dadaab. 4 month contract)
The incumbent will be responsible for the implementation and reporting of the Fresh Food Voucher project, provide
technical expertise on the food security and livelihood situation in the field office. Ensures proposal development, reporting and technical representation of Save the Children UK Kenya Programme.
He/She will also recruit; coach and capacity build staff to achieve project objectives, coordinate project activities and the team to ensure an integrated approach where possible. Design and implement a scientifically sound M & E system to enable a proper measurement of the project impact, play an active role in the Food Security & Livelihoods meetings at District, Province, and national level, actively coordinating with government agencies and other key livelihood stakeholders. Provide technical expertise and knowledge of field context to support Save the Children UK Kenya Programme strategy and identify areas for Hunger Reduction programming.
Person Specification
A University Degree in Agriculture/Livestock production or socio-economic related fields, postgraduate degree in social sciences, economics, geography or other discipline relevant to urban/rural livelihoods with at least 5 years substantial experience at senior management level and demonstrated experience in managing partnerships with UN/INGO and Government, managing complex operations in an emergency or development context.
Food Security & Livelihoods Officer
(1 position based in Dadaab. 4 month contract)
Responsible for the implementation of Save the Children’s Food Security voucher programme within the field office.
The incumbent will provide technical support, capacity build and manage local staff to ensure high quality standards of project implementation.
Person Specification
A degree in Agriculture/livestock production or development related fields with at least 2 years experience of working in Food Security/Livelihoods projects preferably with national or international NGO. Experience in assessment methodologies (PRA,RRA), organizing and implementation of seed fairs and vouchers, livestock re-stocking and cash for work activities.
Human Resources Officer
(Field based position. 8 month contract)
Responsible for coordinating and managing field office human resources requirements which include manpower planning, recruitment and selection, placement, coordinating induction, leave management, performance management, contract management, medical insurance contact and managing exits. Implement national policies in accordance with Save the Children UK policies and practices.
Person Specification
A degree in Human Resources Management or Social Sciences from a recognized University and a Diploma in Human
Resources with at least 2 years relevant experience in HR/Admin within a busy organisation preferably an INGO, with
knowledge of current Kenya employment legislation.
