We are looking for a Deputy Director to lead the accounting function in the Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM) in our New York Headquarters.
Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of DFAM, the Comptroller and an active leader in the finance team, s/he will have responsibility for
- the establishment and implementation of the accounting policy framework and technical accounting advice, and
- the design, development and support of key financial reporting procedures and systems which provide for the protection and safeguarding of assets and the prudent use of resources.
S/he will
- plan, organize and direct the activities of the accounting function,
- provide leadership for financial statement preparation in compliance with applicable standards and regulations and for financial analysis, reporting and decision-making support for key business activities,
- partner with key internal stakeholders to instill a financial mindset across the organisation and
- represent organisational interests with external government, donor and UN system stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
- Professional accounting designation (Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant or equivalent qualification) or advanced university degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- At least 15 years of professional accounting or financial auditing experience with the last 5 years at international level.
- Practical understanding of IPSAS, International Accounting Standards (IAS) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Demonstrated experience with financial management and accounting system applications and system conversion preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Fluency in English and another UN language, proficiency in French or Spanish advantageous
