To support this work, IITA is looking for a Driver/Field Assistant. This position is required to support the banana project
Duty Station: This isa Nationally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based at the IITA Office at the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NMAIST) in Kijenge, Arusha.
Responsibilities
Provide support and transport between locations in Arusha in support of breeder and administrator.
Assist with field operations
Maintain excellent breeding records
Oversee bunch harvesting and ripening
Assist the banana team in breeding and field activities
Report findings orally and in writing
Other official duties as assigned by the banana breeder
Required Qualifications / Experience
The candidate should have a Certificate/Class C or above and valid driving permit.
At least 1 year experience in agricultural practices
Flexibility, reliability and honesty
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili
Ability to work in a multi cultural environment.
The ability to work independently and as a team member;

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

To support this work, IITA is looking for a Research Associate. This position is required to support the Aflatoxin biocontrol project.
Duty Station: This is a Nationally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based in Dar es Salaam Tanzania
Responsibilities:
As a member of the aflatoxin management teqm, actively participate in the development of aflatoxin biological control for maize and groundnut in Tanzania; contribute to documenting the prevalence of aflatoxin along the maize and groundnut value chains; and provide technical support to various
Aflatoxin projects in Tanzania, and raising aflatoxin awareness among farmers and biocontrol technology to mitigate aflatoxin.
Specific TORs -
Actively collaborate, participate and support aflatoxin biocontrol activities in Tanzania
Assist in the design and lead implementation of field, screen house and laboratory experiments
Manage collection, preparation and analyses of samples for mycotoxin analysis
Evaluate the efficacy of aflatoxin biocontrol strains on maize and groundnut
Participate in the production and evaluation of aflatoxin biocontrol following set standards and protocols, and adhering to Tanzanian regulations
Assist in the management of linkages with various research development partners in Tanzania
Play an active role in awareness creation and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders in
Tanzania
Participate in workshops in Tanzania to share, results with stakeholders, and create awareness of
mycotoxin and biocontrol of aflatoxin Organize regular planning and review meetings with all stakeholder and implementing partners.
Effectively manage and maintain laboratory equipment, materials, reagents with adherence to standard practices and protocols
Carefully collect, organize and analyze data from field, screen house and lab experiments and field surveys
Provide technical support (e.g. dispatch of samples, import, export permits and phytosanitary certificates, etc ) to Senior Pathologist as' and when required .
Manage support staff in all plant pathology activities, and contribute to orienting new staff and students in good laboratory techniques .
Develop and revise scientific papers from existing drafts and from new studies for submission to peer reviewed and Thomson indexed journals
Develop succinct and informative reports detailing design and treatment effects from experiments and surveys as shown by logical and statistically sound interpretation of the data
Actively seek and share ideas and opportunities for' collaboration with staff representing other institutions that have mandates to improve the efficiency of the agricultural sector
Act in an independent and responsible manner to represent IITA both within and outside working hours
Interact with national and international partners towards developing and implementing aflatoxin management strategies on behalf of IITA.
Report directly to your supervisor and respond to requests in a timely, transparent, positive and professional manner .

Educational requirements and experience: The successful candidate should have:
The candidate should have a MSc in either Agricultural Sciences, Microbiology, Food Science. (including Food Microbiology, Food Technology, Food Nutrition, etc.), or equivalent degree.
Experience of at least 3 years working in agricultural development projects,
Training or understanding of aflatoxin or microbiology and 'field research is essential, and managerial skill is desirable.
Good understanding of the agricultural sector and its development challenges in Africa, such as those affecting technology dissemination, adoption, and impacts. .
Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural-environment.
Demonstrated communication & organizational skills and ability to prepare high quality reports.
Demonstrated ability in stakeholder and partner engagement and policy dialogue.
Excellent leadership and team building skills.
Strong interpersonal relationships and communication skills.
Willingness to travel for field work

FIELD COORDINATOR
IITA-ILRI - TZ-R4D-019-NRS-MOR
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on behalf of the International Livestock Research
Institute (ILRI) invites applications for the position of a Project Coordinator. The project coordinator will be part of the project team for a 2-year USAID funded project aimed at increasing availability of ITM vaccine to more livestock keepers in Tanzania.
This is to be achieved through expansion of the distributional networks which will involve recruitment of additional distributors and expanding the networks of distributor agents for new and existing distributors and training, equipping and linking vaccinators to cattle keepers through innovative linkage mechanisms.
The project will be implemented in different ports of the country including the northern regions of Tango and Morogoro as well as in the Southern highlands regions where ILRI and its partners are working to transform the dairy value chain and increase household income through the hub approach

Duty Station: This is a Notionally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Key requirements:
The person will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the project to ensure timely and effective implementation and completion. Specifically, the project coordinator will be responsible for the following activities:
Coordinate project planning and implementation, including assessing needs, setting goals and objectives in consultation with the Project Leader (PL).
Establish project work plans and a calendar of events; monitor, review, and evaluate progress in consultation with the project team.
Represent the project at meetings and distribute minutes to project team members on behalf of the PL.
Keep the PL informed about project status and issues that may impact the project on a regular basis.
Maintain good relations, provide advice, serve as olioison and as a resource person to partners.
Establish and maintain internal and external contacts as necessary.
Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information to the project team and partners.
Verify and analyse the accuracy of data and information used or generated by project partners; resolve any discrepancies or problems.
Propose ideas to the project team for improving the implementation of the project based on experience on the ground. .
Prepare records of project activities; oversee and ensure the timely processing and delivery of required reports in consultation with the PL
Key requirements:
Degree in animal science or related field. A post graduate qualification in Project Management, Entrepreneurship or Rural development would an added advantage.. .
Minimum of 3 years' experience in the delivery of development projects with a private sector or NGO
