University of Amsterdam is offering merit scholarships for the academic year 2016-2017. Scholarships are open for students from outside the European Economic Area. Scholarships are available to pursue Bachelor’s or Master’s programme. AMS will not be awarded to candidates who are admitted for a second Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Amsterdam. Students will be selected on the basis of academic merit.

Eligibility: Candidates wishing to take part in the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship programme must meet the following requirements:
-Hold a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under studiefinanciering, the Dutch system of study grants and loans. The scholarship office should be notified as soon as possible of any change in nationality, type of residence permit, and/or possiblestudiefinanciering support, throughout the academic year.
-Be fully admitted to a degree programme at the University of Amsterdam which is registered at the Central Register of Higher Education Programmes (CROHO).
-Be admitted to a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Amsterdam for the first time. AMS will not be awarded to candidates who are admitted for a second Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Amsterdam.
-Be able to comply with Dutch visa regulations.
-Be enrolled at the UvA as a full-time student for the academic year and the programme for which the scholarship is awarded.
-The candidate should not be receiving a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the AMS scholarship. Notify the UvA if you have been awarded and accepted another full scholarship.
-Scholarship continuation for subsequent year(s) of study depends upon satisfactory study progress. Because this depends on the curriculum and the rules and regulations of the department, your programme sets the standard for satisfactory progress, and the time and manner in which progress will be measured. Please be advised that you are expected to gain approximately 80% of credits in any one year.

The University of Amsterdam aims to attract the world’s brightest students to its international classrooms. Outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area can apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS).

What does it cover? The scholarship consists of either €6,000, € 9,000 or € 12,000. In the first month of study – September 2016 – the student will be paid €1000. The remainder of the scholarship will be paid in 12 monthly instalments. Note that the scholarship can not be used as a tuition waiver; the applicant must pay the full amount of the tuition due (€12,000).
