The National Institute of Transport (NIT) was established by Act of Parliament, Number 24 of 1982. Currently the Institute is under the Ministry of Transport. It is fully accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE).

4.1               HEAD, PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT - 1 POST

4.1.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Chief advisor to the Deputy Rector – Planning, Finance and Administration on all matters pertaining to Planning and Development.

·      Develops and reviews the corporate strategic plan and appropriately

·      Advises the management

·      Develops and reviews the master plan and appropriately advises the Management.

·      Establishes and manages Institute databank

·      Effectively markets the Institute plans internally and externally

·      Proposes effective strategies for mobilizing resources for Implementing the Institute plans

·      Prepares annual budgets in liaison with Finance office

·      Assists the Secretary to the Finance, Planning and Development Committee of the Institute

·      Supervises work performance in the Department

·      Prepares plans or project documents

·      Prepares planning policy for the Institute

·      Attends meetings of the Institute which have impact on the planning Function.

·      Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

4.1.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

·      Masters Degree in Planning, Economics, Engineering, General management or statistics.

·      Proven work experience of at least seven  (7) years of good service  with outstanding

capabilities in the relevant field.

4.1.3           REMUNARATION:

4.2               CHIEF LIBRARIAN – 1 POST

4.2.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Heads of the Institute Library Services Department,

·      Responsible and acts as an advisor to the Deputy Rector-Academic, Research and Consultancy in respect of such matters pertaining to Library affairs,

·      Overall responsible for the supervisory and administrative functions of Library,

·      Responsible for safe keeping of tools, machines and equipment,

·      Entrusted to his/her custody for the facilitation of services,

·      Administers routine ordering and processing of books,



·      Recommends appropriate budgets for the Library,

·      Responsible for training of staff carry out normal Library duties,

·      Secretary to the Library Board,

·      Responsible for the smooth running of the library Department,

·      Liaises with Heads of Department regarding requirements, of books, pamphlets, periodicals and journals,

·      Supervises work performance in the Department,

·      Performs any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

4.2.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·      Master’s Degree in Library studies, Library Archives, Documentation and Records Management, Records Management and Information system and Library Science and Records Management Psychology.

·      Proven work experience of at least five (5) years of good service with outstanding capabilities in the similar position.

·      PhD qualification in the relevant field with teaching experience is an added advantage.

4.2.3           REMUNARATION:
Attractive remuneration package according to institution`s salary scale PGSS 20 (under review).

4.3               ADMISSION AND EXAMINATIONS OFFICER – 2 POSTS

4.3.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Implements admission policies, regulations and procedures,

·      Responsible for registration of students,

·      Makes correspondences regarding admission matters,

·      Receives and processes admission applications,

·      Responsible for planning, co-coordinating, directing and controlling students’ admission matters,

·      Keeps proper records of all students’ admission matters,

·      Ensures proper implementation of examination policies, regulations and procedures,

·      Responsible for registration of students for examinations,

·      Responsible for compilation of examination results,

·      Responsible for all correspondences regarding examination matters in consultation with the management,

·      Responsible for receiving and processing examination applications, complaints and appeals,

·      Responsible for keeping proper records of all students’ examination matters,

·      Responsible for coordination of moderation of draft examination papers in accordance with the Institute examination regulations.



·      Ensures examination papers and materials are handled with utmost security

·      Performs any other duties that may be assigned by Supervisor

4.3.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·   Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Statistics, Business Studies, Administration or equivalent qualifications (1 Post).
AND

·      Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Information Technology, Computer science or equivalent qualifications (1Post)

4.3.3           REMUNARATION:

4.4               HEAD, REAL ESTATES -1 POST

4.4.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Advises and assists the Deputy Rector - PFA on matters pertaining to Real Estates and technical services

·      Ensures maintenance and cleaning of Institute properties and environment

·      Examines bills of quantities of Real Estates related activities/works and technical services

·      Prepares work schedules of Real Estates management and related technical services

·      Prepares budget for maintenance works

·      Supervises and manages Institute’s Development Projects.

·      Develops short and long term programmes for the Institute’s general improvement related to landscaping of the campus grounds and drainage systems

·      Formulates policies on Real Estates Management of the Institute.

·      Ensures Institute machines and equipment are in good working order

·      Ensures innovative approaches to conditioning, maintaining, and upgrading the built and un-built environment.

·      Plans, organizes, implements and controls all activities and services related to Real Estate Management.

·      Devises methods and procedures for monitoring and control of Estates functions.

·      Coordinates work programs in collaboration with building and maintenance staff of the Estates

·      Coordinates the preparation of the physical master plan.

·      Prepares and compiles budget estimates for Capital Development.

·      Coordinates the effective maintenance and rehabilitation of the infrastructure.

·      Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

4.4.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE




·      Master’s Degree in Land Management and Valuation, Environmental Engineering/Architecture/Building Economics/Civil Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.

·      Working experience in a senior position in a related field for at least six (6) years.

4.4.3              REMUNARATION:

4.5               ASSISTANT DEAN OF STUDENTS – 1POST

4.5.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Assists the Dean of Students in Students’ Counseling and Guidance.

·      Coordinates students’ culture, recreational and sports activities.

·      Takes care of students’ welfare and ensures that the sick are urgently attended and been taken care of satisfactorily.

·      Provides counseling and Guidance to students;

·      Advises Students in the operation of the Students Organization at the Institute and supervises the election of its leadership;

·      Performs any other duties as delegated by the Dean of Students.

4.5.2        QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·   Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Social Welfare/Sociology/Guidance and Counseling or Community Development.

·   Work experience of at least six years in the High Learning Institution will be an added advantage.


4.5.3        REMUNARATION:

4.6               TUTORIAL ASSISTANT - 18 POSTS

4.6.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Teaches up to NTA level 6 (Ordinary Diploma)

·      Assists in conducting tutorials and practical exercises for students under close supervision

·      Prepares learning resources for tutorials and practical exercises.

·      Assists in conducting research under close supervision

·      Conducts examinations and submits results to the relevant authority timely.

·      Carries out Consultancy and Community Development services under close supervision

·      Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

4.6.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE



·      Bachelor’s degree with Upper Second Hons. (NTA Level 8) of GPA not less than 3.8, and for unclassified degrees with an overall average of B+ grade or above in the following fields of study:-

4.6.2.1      DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY.

· Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering -3 Posts

4.6.2.2      DEPARTMENT OF LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT STUDIES

·      Logistics and Transport Management with majors in Air, Road, and Railway transport, OR Freight clearing and forwarding -2 Posts.

4.6.2.3      DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP STUDIES

·      Human Resources Management, Commerce/Business Administration, Accounting/Finance, Economics and Tourism Management -7 Posts.

4.6.2.4      DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

·   Environmental science/Engineering, Automobile/Mechanical Engineering or Transport Safety and Security -4 Posts.

4.6.2.5      DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION STUDIES

·   Aeronautic Engineering, Avionics, Electronics, Automobile/Mechanical Engineering, and Telecommunication Engineering -4 Posts.

4.6.3           REMUNARATION:

4.7               ASSISTANT LECTURER -17 POSTS

4.7.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Teaches up to NTA level 8 or equivalent

· Prepares learning resources for tutorial exercises · Conducts research, seminars and case studies

· Carries’ out Consultancy and Community Development services under supervision · Supervises students’ projects

· Conducts examinations and submits results to the relevant Authority timely. · Prepares teaching manuals and

· Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor

4.7.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·      Master's degree or NTA Level 9 of GPA not less than 3.8, and for unclassified degrees, with an overall average of not less than B+ grade. Must have relevant first degree with GPA not less than 3.8 and for unclassified degree, overall average of B+ grade or above.




·     Valid or eligible for registration with NACTE as Technical Teacher OR

·      Master's degree or NTA Level 9 of GPA not less than 3.5 and for unclassified degrees, overall average of not less than B Grade;

·       relevant working experience in industry of not less than three (3) years and Valid or potential of registration with NACTE as Technical Teacher in the following areas or fields of study:-
4.7.2.1           DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY.

·      Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering/Production Engineering, Transport Engineering and Civil Engineering /Highway Engineering - 3 Posts.

4.7.2.2      DEPARTMENT OF LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT STUDIES

· Shipping, Railway and Air Transport Management or Economics and Planning - 4 Posts.

4.7.2.3      DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP STUDIES

·      Supply Chain Management, Human Resources Management, Commerce /Business Administration, Accounting/Finance and Economics 5 Posts.

4.7.2.4      DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

· Computer Science/Engineering - 3 Posts.

4.7.2.5      DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

4.8               LECTURER - 13 POSTS.

4.8.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Teaches up to NTA level 9,

·      Guides and supervises students in building up their practical and research projects,

·      Prepares learning resources and design training exercises for students ,

·      Conducts consultancy and community services,

·      Develops and reviews existing curriculum,

·      Undertakes individual research and participates in scientific/academic congregations ,

·      Conducts examinations and submits results to the relevant authorities timely,

·      Prepares teaching manuals, simulations and case studies for training,

·      Coaches junior teaching staff and


· Performs any other duties as may be assigned-by supervisor.

4.8.2           QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·   PhD, degree (NTA Level 10 or equivalent) and eligible for registration with NACTE as Technical Teacher.

OR

·      Registered professional with Master's degree (NTA Level 9 or equivalent); with at least 10 years' experience in relevant work industry; and at least 5 papers of retrievable publications or Consultancy/Research reports of the academically and professionally appreciable depth in the following fields of study:-

4.8.2.1      DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY.

· Transport Engineering Studies -3 Posts.

4.8.2.2      DEPARTMENT OF LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT STUDIES

· Logistics or transport studies -3 posts.

4.8.2.3      DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP STUDIES

·      Supply Chain Management, Human Resources Management, Commerce/Business Administration, Accounting/Finance and Economics - 4 Posts.

4.8.2.4      DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

· Computer Science and Engineering -1 Post.

4.8.2.5      DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

4.8.3           REMUNARATION:

4.9               PRINCIPAL PILOT INSTRUCTOR I – 1 POST.

4.9.1           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Teaches up to NTA level 7 and may assist teaching in higher NTA levels

·      Coordinates teaching activities and prepares learning resources

·      Conducts research and consultancy projects

·      Conducts examinations and submits results to relevant authorities timely.

·      Develops and reviews curriculum

·      Supervises students projects and research works up to NTA level 8

·      Supervises and assists junior teaching staff

·      Assumes leadership roles and



· Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor

4.9.2        QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·   Commercial Pilot license (CPL), Certified Flying Instructor (CFI) rating on CESSNA 172 or 150 with a minimum of 300 hrs of flying.

4.9.3        REMUNARATION:
