NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT (NIT)
The National Institute of
Transport (NIT) was established by Act of Parliament, Number 24 of 1982.
Currently the Institute is under the Ministry of Transport. It is fully
accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE).
4.1
HEAD, PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT - 1 POST
4.1.1
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Chief advisor to the Deputy Rector –
Planning, Finance and Administration on all matters pertaining to Planning and
Development.
·
Develops
and reviews the corporate strategic plan and appropriately
·
Advises
the management
·
Develops
and reviews the master plan and appropriately advises the Management.
·
Establishes
and manages Institute databank
·
Effectively markets the Institute plans
internally and externally
·
Proposes
effective strategies for mobilizing resources for Implementing the Institute plans
·
Prepares
annual budgets in liaison with Finance office
·
Assists
the Secretary to the Finance, Planning and Development Committee of the
Institute
·
Supervises
work performance in the Department
·
Prepares
plans or project documents
·
Prepares
planning policy for the Institute
·
Attends
meetings of the Institute which have impact on the planning Function.
·
Performs
any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
4.1.2
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Masters
Degree in Planning, Economics, Engineering, General management or statistics.
·
Proven
work experience of at least seven (7)
years of good service with outstanding
capabilities in the relevant field.

4.2
CHIEF LIBRARIAN – 1 POST
4.2.1
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Heads
of the Institute Library Services Department,
·
Responsible and acts as an advisor to the
Deputy Rector-Academic, Research and Consultancy in respect of such matters
pertaining to Library affairs,
·
Overall
responsible for the supervisory and administrative functions of Library,
·
Responsible
for safe keeping of tools, machines and equipment,
·
Entrusted
to his/her custody for the facilitation of services,
·
Administers
routine ordering and processing of books,
·
Responsible
for training of staff carry out normal Library duties,
·
Secretary
to the Library Board,
·
Responsible
for the smooth running of the library Department,
·
Liaises with Heads of Department regarding
requirements, of books, pamphlets, periodicals and journals,
·
Supervises
work performance in the Department,
·
Performs
any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
4.2.2
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
·
Master’s Degree in Library studies, Library
Archives, Documentation and Records Management, Records Management and
Information system and Library Science and Records Management Psychology.
·
Proven work experience of at least five (5)
years of good service with outstanding capabilities in the similar position.
·
PhD
qualification in the relevant field with teaching experience is an added
advantage.
4.2.3

ADMISSION AND EXAMINATIONS OFFICER – 2 POSTS
4.3.1
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Implements
admission policies, regulations and procedures,

for registration of students,

correspondences regarding admission matters,

Receives
and processes admission applications,
·
Responsible for planning, co-coordinating,
directing and controlling students’ admission matters,

proper records of all students’ admission matters,

proper implementation of examination policies, regulations and procedures,

Responsible
for registration of students for examinations,

for compilation of examination results,
·
Responsible for all correspondences regarding
examination matters in consultation with the management,

for keeping proper records of all students’ examination matters,

Responsible for coordination of moderation of
draft examination papers in accordance with the Institute examination
regulations.

4.4.1
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Advises and assists the Deputy Rector - PFA
on matters pertaining to Real Estates and technical services
·
Ensures
maintenance and cleaning of Institute properties and environment
·
Examines
bills of quantities of Real Estates related activities/works and technical
services
·
Prepares
work schedules of Real Estates management and related technical services
·
Prepares
budget for maintenance works
·
Supervises
and manages Institute’s Development Projects.
·
Develops short and long term programmes for
the Institute’s general improvement related to landscaping of the campus
grounds and drainage systems
·
Formulates
policies on Real Estates Management of the Institute.
·
Ensures
Institute machines and equipment are in good working order
·
Ensures innovative approaches to
conditioning, maintaining, and upgrading the built and un-built environment.
·
Plans, organizes, implements and controls all
activities and services related to Real Estate Management.
·
Devises
methods and procedures for monitoring and control of Estates functions.
·
Coordinates work programs in collaboration
with building and maintenance staff of the Estates
·
Coordinates
the preparation of the physical master plan.
·
Prepares
and compiles budget estimates for Capital Development.
·
Coordinates
the effective maintenance and rehabilitation of the infrastructure.
·
Performs
any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
4.4.2
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
·
Master’s Degree in Land Management and
Valuation, Environmental Engineering/Architecture/Building Economics/Civil
Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
·
Working
experience in a senior position in a related field for at least six (6) years.

4.5
ASSISTANT DEAN OF STUDENTS – 1POST
4.5.1
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Assists
the Dean of Students in Students’ Counseling and Guidance.
·
Coordinates
students’ culture, recreational and sports activities.
·
Takes care of students’ welfare and ensures
that the sick are urgently attended and been taken care of satisfactorily.
·
Provides counseling and Guidance to students;
·
Advises Students in the operation of the
Students Organization at the Institute and supervises the election of its
leadership;
·
Performs
any other duties as delegated by the Dean of Students.
4.5.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s Degree in
Education/Social Welfare/Sociology/Guidance and Counseling or Community
Development.
· Work experience of at least
six years in the High Learning Institution will be an added advantage.
