ABOUT THE PARTNER
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Cooperatives (MAFC) is thegovernment ministry of Tanzania principally concerned withagriculture, food production and agricultural cooperatives. Its mission is to deliver agricultural and cooperative services, to build the cooperative and agricultural capacity of Local Government Authorities, and to interface the government sector and public sectorwith regards to agricultural development.
Agriculture is the base of Tanzania's economy and accounts for more than 25 percent of the GDP. Agriculture also accounts for 75 percent of merchandise export earnings and at least 80 percent of its population depends mainly on agriculture for their livelihood, producing most of the country's food and cash crops.
THE VOLUNTEER's ROLE
The volunteer's role will be to work as part of an agriculture advisor team at MAFC and programme delivery team VSO Tanzania Programme Office. The volunteer will travel to different regions to gather data and learn about projects, working together with partners, volunteers delivering agriculture projects. He/she will also study different approaches done by other INGO, private sector (large, small companies) working alongside agriculture value chains.
Specific Objectives:
- Ensure that the Ministry is up to date on information gathered regarding what is happening in the agriculture sector
- Enable the Ministry to know the key actors in the sector and their contributions
- Analyse the key opportunities available in the agriculture sector and possibilities for scaling up
- Analyse the key challenges faced by agriculture implementing partners in the delivery of agriculture projects
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential qualifications:
- Qualified graduate (advanced diploma, degree or above) in Business Management, Community Development or Agriculture science
- At least 5 years of experience in small & medium enterprise development or Income generation
- Experience of conducting studies or assessment
- Experience in research or monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in implementation of agriculture projects
Desirable qualifications:
- Experience of carrying out agriculture sub-sector selection and value chain development.

- Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates are expected to cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)

- Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and health insurance
- Accommodation while overseas
- A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
- Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
- Modest support for accompanying partners
