WWF - The global conservation organization, Kenya Country Office (KCO), is seeking to recruit:

Project Officer - Livelihoods

To be based in Bodhei, Ijara District and Mokowe, Lamu District, Kenya

Under the supervision of the Coastal Kenya Programme Coordinator, the Project Officer’s major functions will be: ensure the efficient, result-oriented and cost-effective implementation of livelihoods project activities in the Boni-Dodori Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Project within the WWF Coastal Kenya Programme (CKP) Coordination Office.

He/she will contribute to the implementation of the CKP Action Plan in line with WWF-KCO Country Action Plan (WWF-KCO CAP).

Major duties will include but not limited to:
  • development of an appropriate Sustainable Livelihood Intervention Strategy within the Project context;
  • oversee and directly manage Project’s livelihoods activities by providing technical support, development of logical frameworks and appropriate indicators, development of project proposals and budgeting, narrative and financial reporting in line with donor requirements including monitoring expenditure;
  • develop a thorough analysis of the livelihoods situation through primary and secondary assessments and with due consideration for women and youth as well as objectives of the project;
  • co-ordinate surveys and rapid assessments, including training, planning, analysis and report writing in respect of livelihoods interventions/projects while ensuring that appropriate field supervision is undertaken;
  • coordinate and network with other stakeholders to promote appropriate livelihoods development programming within the framework of WWF-KCO CAP and related policies;
  • Design, manage, analyze and communicate technical information across the project and programme team;
  • in liaison with Boni-Dodori SFM Project Officer and Programme Coordinator-CKP, identify and assess the capacity needs of the programme/project staff, partners and others involved in the project and plan and implement capacity building activities;
The incumbent must possess:
  • a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Development Studies, Natural Resources Management or related field;
  • a minimum of 3 years experience in the management of livelihoods projects, including a mature understanding of sustainable livelihoods programming in a variety of livelihoods intervention areas;
  • excellent verbal and written communications skills in English required, good team player with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • community development skills, including participatory community assessment and planning techniques, with skills in capacity building of communities and experience of working with livelihoods groups/community-based structures;
  • experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs, in particular livelihoods analysis;
  • experience in disaster risk reduction and vulnerability assessment and analysis; a sound understanding of the importance of gender in project work;
  • sensitivity to cultural differences;
  • ability to work independently and under pressure in a rapidly changing professional environment;
  • ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies, donors and the NGO/CBO community;
  • good in networking and fundraising; proven skills in project planning, proposal writing, management, implementation and evaluation as well as experience of working with a diversity of donors;
  • a working knowledge of financial management, especially of projects;
  • willingness to travel frequently and at short notice, often in difficult circumstances, and to spend adequate periods of time in the field;
  • knowledge of Kiswahili and local cultures is an added advantage;
  • a strong vocational interest in nature conservation; and
  • adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Optimistic, Engaging, Determined and Knowledgeable;
