Utility Inspector ,American Embassy in Tanzania

The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Utility Inspector in Facilities Maintenance Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Keep accurate and complete data on all utilities of all GOV residences and Embassy, and recommend replenishment. Monitor Luku readings, water levels, fuel usage and possible fuel theft.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

On weekly schedule; Monitor the usage of the Luku’s at the residences and reorder when applicable. Monitor the usage of the diesel fuel for the generators and reorder if applicable. Take note of any misuse or tampering of fuel and report any possible theft and offer suggestions to stop stealing of fuel. On this same weekly schedule: While performing aforementioned duties will also inspect and check all fluid levels in the residential generators, will inspect all oil levels, all coolant levels and add as necessary to include battery electrolyte fluid levels. Will record water consumption, engine oil consumption weekly and provide to the FMM.

The incumbent will also monitor water level and consumption and reorder if applicable. Monitor water tank usage and report any leaks or misuse to reduce any false calls to fill water tanks when this is not the problem. Will also observe water filter usage and fowl water smell to repair water problem. Inspects the water plant for leaks and Embassy water consumption at the water plant and report findings. The chlorinator will be checked and monitored for proper readings.

The incumbent will formulate analytical and statistical consumption reports for Luku consumption, kilowatt hour consumption reports, and other analytical reports for higher management, monthly. Will inspect make readies on various days to see progress and suggest proper make ready improvements. Utility Inspector will inspect the Embassy generator room for proper function and record all fuel consumption.

Analyzes potentially dangerous or hazardous situations that could jeopardize the safety of the customer such as fuel leaks, inadequate plumbing connections and holding tank hazards, and electrical hazards.

Performs job activities and duties in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards; Confirms to established safety and health policies and procedures; properly utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment as required by job activity; informs supervisor of all accidents, illnesses and injuries; promptly reports unsafe or hazardous conditions. May be called upon at times to fill in for Assistant POSHO (Post Occupational, Safety, Health Officer). Must know safety standards and pest control applications or be able to learn within six months. Carries out all other duties as tasked by Maintenance Foreman, Maintenance Supervisor and American Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1. Education: Completion of Secondary School (form IV) and Vocational training from Technical School is required.




2. Prior experience: Must have two years of experience in utility trades.




3. Language proficiency: Level III (good working knowledge) English ability and Level IV (fluent) in Kiswahili (reading, writing and speaking) is required.




4. Knowledge: Good working knowledge of utility consumption process (electric, fuel, water). Ideally would have been a generator technician or an electrical technician previously.




5. Skills and Abilities: Able to perform most tasks with minimal supervision. Computer skills to use office computer system and data applications for monitoring including replenishment of utilities are required. Must have a valid driver's license and be a certified safe driver. Must be able to pass driving test immediately.
