Someone who can look at a brief / quote request from a client and see opportunities in it that can bring in more value to the clients' holiday experiences.
Typically, I will be interested in someone who has been in the industry for at least 5 years and is experienced in booking tickets through the Galileo system.
Most importantly, the person should be interested in current affairs and should be well versed on current events, trends and happenings around the world and can then translate these into exciting tour packages and escapades that will be sold to discerning clients.
Their responsibilities / activities on a daily basis would be;
- Responding and following up on client requests;
- Issuing tickets and booking accommodation;
- Researching, developing and creating interesting holiday packages to be sold to various clients including companies, groups and individuals;
- selling holiday and travel products to customers; through anticipating the needs of the clients ;
- meeting sales targets as set out by the travel agency manager;
- dealing with complicated customer itineraries and translating them in a way that the customer understands them;
- handling customer orders and payments;
- liaising with tour operators and other key partners such as hotels and airlines regarding bookings and schedules;
- undertaking general administration;
- advising clients about passports, vaccinations, visas, foreign currency, travel insurance, car parking, car hire abroad and excursions in resorts;
- dealing with complaints and responding to the clients in a way that they feel heard/vilified;
- using and updating IT skills, since information on holiday packages and bookings is usually accessed via a network;
- Organising displays of promotional material.
