The Research Officer will play a central role in all stages of the project including developing the conceptual framework and research design, conducting fieldwork, data analysis and writing up findings. The specific responsibilities of the Research Officer will include designing and implementing field studies in the Great Lakes region, managing collaboration with regional partners, overseeing the data collection and analysis, and preparing project outputs including reports, workshops and academic articles.
The successful candidate will have a Doctorate in a relevant social science discipline; good knowledge of the region; relevant experience of fieldwork using a range of methods, including qualitative and quantitative approaches; a good understanding of migration studies; and excellent skills in analysis and communication, including fluency in written and spoken French and/or Kiswahili and writing and presentation for a wide range of audiences. The post will include extensive travel across the region.
This post is part-time for 24 months at 0.75 FTE (with a possibility of extension subject to funding) to start on 1 April 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. Full-time over 18 months would also be considered.
