The successful candidate for this position will be an IRRI Developer/Programmer to partcipate in a team of physiologists and crop modelers developing and implementing crop modeling tools in collaboration with CIRAD (France) and CCAFS (Colombia and UK), on the basis of a 2.5 year externally funded project. The programmer will have the support of other IT personnel located nearby within IRRI.
The developer/programmer will contribute to the development, improvement and application of crop modeling in research on plant adaptation to climate change/variability and phenotyping of plant responses to climate. This also includes data handling and DB management. Training will be provided.
Duties
• Assist in the improvement of models SAMARA and RIDEV recently developed at CIRAD, including model code and user interface
• Assist in DB establishment, management and model applications using those DBs
• Contribute to software/model documentation and user manuals
• Perform all other related duties that may be assigned by supervisor
Qualification requirements
• BS in Information Technology or Computer Science
• Minimum 1 year experience in development of software tools, preferably in research
• Good programming and development skills using 3rd generation object based programming
languages (e.g. Delphi, C++) and other current development tools
• Familiarity with object-oriented modeling (UML)
• Familiarity with relational databases is essential
• Familiarity with R software
• Skills in using MS Office tools including Excel and access
• Written and spoken proficiency in English language
• Notions of biological and/or agronomic sciences are an advantage
