DIVISION OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE
Egerton University, the oldest institution of higher learning in Kenya, invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals with excellent credentials to fill the following posts.
Egerton University was founded in 1939 as Egerton Farm School and was upgraded to an Agricultural College in 1950. In 1986, the Agricultural College became a constituent College of the University of Nairobi. It was elevated to a University in 1987 through an Act of Parliament.
Since its inception, the University has registered significant expansion in student numbers, academic programmes and physical facilities. Currently the University has a student population of over 15,000 and a staff number of 1,900 and consists of two campuses (Njoro and Nakuru Town)
1. UNIVERSITY BUSINESS MANAGER (RE-ADVERTISED) – (1 Post) – EU/AF/2012 – 0201
Applicants must have a good Bachelor’s degree and possession of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from a recognized institution is an added advantage. In addition, the applicant must have at least five (5) years experience in managing a business company or an organization, three (3) of which must have been at a Senior Management level.
Responsibilities: The incumbent will be in charge of coordination and management of all Income Generating enterprises of the University. This is a Senior Management position requiring an individual who is dynamic, focused, self-driven, and honest and with capacity to generate and implement sound business plans on behalf of the University and deliver within set targets and timelines. He/She shall prepare quarterly and annual reports to the Company Board of Directors of Egerton University Investment Company and/or University Management Board.
TERMS OF SERVICE
The successful applicants for the above post will be hired on a three (3) year contract with competitive negotiated remuneration package. The contract will be based on agreed performance targets and is renewable on mutual agreement.
2. SENIOR ACCOUNTANT GRADE 13 – (4 Posts) – EU/AF/2012 – 0202
The candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:-
- Bachelor degree from a recognized Institution.
- Be a CPA (K) and a registered member of ICPAK.
- Possession of MBA degree will be added advantage.
- Must have at least three (3) years experience as an Accountant in a busy organization.
- Must have knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
- Must have proof of exemplary work performance.
- Must be of high ethical standard, integrity and professionalism.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the section.
- Prepare financial statements and accounts.
- Compilation of the University budget.
- Participate in budgetary control and administration.
- Responsible for the timely preparation and submission of periodic financial reports.
- Responsible for the preparation of income and expenditure statements.
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
3. ACCOUNTANT I GRADE 12 – (3 Posts) – EU/AF/2012 – 0203
- Bachelor degree from a recognized Institution.
- Be CPA III holder.
- Must have at least three (3) years experience as an Accountant II in a busy organization
- Must have knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
- Must have proof of exemplary work performance.
- Must be of high ethical standard, integrity and professionalism.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the section.
- Responsible for the preparation of ledger accounts.
- Supervise staff under him/her.
- Custodian of accountable documents.
- Prepare final accounts.
- Verify accountable documents under his/her section.
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
4. DEPUTY ICT MANAGER GRADE 12 – (1Post) – EU/AF/2012 – 0204
The candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:-
- Masters degree in ICT or its equivalent from recognized institution or
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or ICT related discipline with not less than 6 years experience in a busy ICT environment .
- They must posses sound knowledge of tools and techniques of structured systems analysis and design methodologies, computer security and/or Access control, disaster recovery and business continuity planning, good understanding of LAN/WAN topologies and project management.
- Interested individuals must be of high integrity, highly self motivated, creative, confident, analytical and change oriented.
- Must be customer focused, keen on details, team player and work with minimum supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leading the development and implementation of a strategic computerized systems that enhances teaching, learning, research and University Administration.
- Supervision of ICT department technical staff.
- In-charge of analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of bespoke & interface systems to satisfy university information needs.
- Preparation of application specifications for approved IT solution for tender.
- Evaluation, recommendation, customization & implementation of packaged IT solutions to address complex information requirements
- Development and maintenance of University’s ICT disaster recovery plans.
- Development & implementation of comprehensive application test strategies to provide optimal fault tolerance.
- Evaluating and recommending development & software standards in line with technology changes to avoid the use of obsolete and inefficient technology.
- Overall in-charge of system access controls and security.
- Develops and ensures adherence to ICT standards.
- Overall in-charge of system implementation roll-outs.
- Analyzing user IT resource requests for value addition and recommending way forward.
- Reviewing existing applications and making changes as required to meet University objectives.
- Ensuring optimal performance of the university applications and network (LAN/WAN) to meet agreed Service Level Agreements.
- Liaising with key external IT vendors/consultants/service providers to ensure resolution of escalated incidents.
- Conducting periodic reviews of helpdesk reports and escalating as necessary.
- Overseeing maintenance of University’s ICT equipment.
- Guiding, developing and mentoring ICT technical staff
TERMS OF SERVICE
The above posts will be on Permanent and Pensionable terms of Service following a satisfactory probationary period.
SALARY SCALE
The salary scale for all the posts are:-
Grade 13 – Kshs.69,840 x 2,012 – 73,864 x 2,507 – 81,385 x 2,774 – 92,481 per month.
Grade 12 – Kshs.61,792 x 2,012 – 73,864 x 2,507 – 81,385 per month.
