Our Buzwagi Mining operation in Tanzania requires a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Metallurgist who will be able to lead activities of the Metallurgical Team, to provide technical leadership to Process Plant operations & development as well as to ensure optimum and cost effective metallurgical performance in a safe working environment.
This position will report to the Metallurgical Superintendent and is worked on a FIFO roster - 6weeks on / 3 weeks off.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties / responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Provide technical support to Buzwagi Process Plant operation to ensure agreed targets are achieved, within corporate safety and environmental guidelines in the areas of:
- Mill Availability
- Throughput and Recovery
- Process Operating & Maintenance Costs
- Capital Expenditure.
- Ensuring optimum metallurgical efficiency is a Key Performance Indicator.
- Lead activities of the Metallurgy Team to assure cost effective and high quality metal recovery activities and to optimize Company’s financial status and net smelter return.
- Achieving optimum metallurgical efficiency is considered a Key Performance Indicator.
- Ensure achievement of optimum and cost effective metallurgical performance though leadership of activities of the Metallurgy team, liaison with operations and maintenance, and contribution to the ongoing training and development of Process Operators.
- Actively participate in Succession Planning within the Process Department to ensure that PML achieves development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability. Development of Graduate Metallurgists and Plant Metallurgists into positions of increasing accountability is a Key Performance Indicator.
- Provide technical input into development of training packages.
- Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Metallurgical team, and to ensure that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential.
- Develop Metallurgical Reconciliation procedures to comply with Sarbanes Oxley Act. Collaborate with Mine and Geology Departments to develop overall Mine to Mill Reconciliation.
- Develop and maintain reporting procedures for production, metal recovery and operating cost by preparing daily, weekly and monthly reports for the Process Department as required.
- Assist with co-ordination of concentrate and doré sales.
- Ensure quality output activities from the Metallurgical Laboratory, including calibration of plant technical equipment.
- Be proactive in all aspects of Process Plant security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud.
- Actively collaborate with other Departments at Buzwagi to ensure that targets for resource exploitation, budget KPI’s, capital management, cost control, safety performance, employee development, environmental management and corporate governance are achieved.
- Continually review every aspect of the Process Plant to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and implemented. Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects.
- Evaluate projects to determine appropriate capital expenditure proposals and/or process modifications.
- Facilitate creation of a workplace climate that ensures minimum disruption to work due to labour turnover or industrial relations issues.
- Ensure adherence to all PML and Barrick policies and procedures.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
- B.Chemical- Mineral Processing or Metallurgical EngineerinG / BSc. Metallurgy or similar / BTech and Diploma in this field of study will also be considered.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years progressive experience in process operations and gold production including experience with gravity recovery, base metals flotation, CIL and gold reconciliation.
- Demonstrated skills with capital justification, budget development, expenditure and controls.
- Experience with operations in a developing country environment. Awareness of culture, business environment and infrastructures issues.
- Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees in developing country.
- Previous commissioning experience is advantageous.
- Strong technical knowledge in metallurgy
