MAG began its current operations in Somalia in May 2008 to clear conventional weapons and stockpiles in conflict-affected lands of the northern areas of Puntland, based in Garowe. MAG has recently registered with the Somaliland authorities and is actively seeking to develop a long term presence in this region, based in Hargeisa.
As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of Physical Stockpile Security Management (PSSM) projects within the Somaliland and Puntland regions, including the management of staff and resources. You will also take an active lead in pursuing and developing new opportunities for MAG in the region, supporting proposal writing and budgeting, research, coordination, and financial, administrative and logistical planning and management. Working with the Country Director you will also monitor the security situation in the area of operations ensuring that operations teams and programme staff are kept informed of security risks and developments.
You will need previous experience of working overseas in international aid or development, however previous experience in the HMA sector is not required. You will preferably have previous experience in a post-conflict setting, with expertise in project management and development, logistics, administration, finance and capacity building. You should have the ability to work within complicated national and international political frameworks, have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate diplomacy, and experience of implementing and administering management systems to improve project effectiveness and efficiency.
MAG takes its responsibility for the security and wellbeing of its staff very seriously. Due to the current situation in Somalia, living arrangements will involve restricted movement and access to recreational activities is limited.

This will be pro rata for the length of the contract. *Please see the general information further information related to this. • Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country. • Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. Staff have a minimum of six weeks annual leave per year, so three weeks leave during this 6 month contract. You will also receive an additional one week ‘breather break’ in a regional destination. • Flights: MAG will provide one international return flight home for leave over the course of the 6 month contract. An additional flight to a regional destination will be provided for the breather break. • Insurance: All international staff are automatically covered by MAG's comprehensive insurance package including: Personal accident and medical expenses insurance; Death by natural causes insurance and access to 24-hour medical assistance including evacuation and repatriation.
