Role and Responsibilities The Logistics Officer (LO) coordinates the logistical and security functions required to support project distributions for the remote areas of Sool and Sanaag regions. The LO is the focal point for logistics support for the Caynabo base and the project teams based in Caynabo.
Project Overview Medair is starting up Health, Nutrition and WASH programme in Sool and Sanaag regions, Somaliland. Another potential project includes Emergency responses and/or expansion of initial programmes into areas with critical needs.

Key activity areas
Logistics
• Ensure quality and efficiency and to adhere to HQ and SOM guidelines in consultation with PSM and Logistics Manager.
• Coordinate the stock and transport of goods to and from project distribution sites and the related security.
• Work with project staff for planning and implementation of activities.
• Use Medair processes and procedures and guidelines.
• Including responsibility for coordinating casual labour and incentive payments for logistics related activities for the transport and distributions.
• Other logistics activities for the Caynabo and Ceel Afweyn base as directed by PSM Caynabo.
• Record keeping, monitoring, reporting as required for SOM team, HQ, donors.
Staff Management
• If required, recruit, develop and appraise local staff.
Liaison
• Coordinate with project staff and local community representatives for logistics related project site activities.
• On occasions if required, support Project Managers and Sector Managers with local community relations related to distributions.
Communication
• Record keeping, monitoring, reporting as required for SOM team, HQ, donors.
• Maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with the Medair team.
• Responsible for the maintenance of communications systems used on the project.

Qualifications
• Relevant degree or combination of experience and qualifications
• Qualification in logistics or procurement desirable
Experience / Competencies
• Experience in logistics or administration
• 1 years minimum experience in logistics desirable
• IT skills and experience appropriate to laptops and small networks desirable
• 1 year work abroad, preferably in a relief context desirable
• Somali language skills desirable

Working Conditions
• Based in Caynabo, as part of a team of approximately 8 International/Kenyan staff.
• Living standards are reasonably good and currently the security situation is stable but this can change rapidly.
• It may be necessary to work in other locations in Somaliland on occasions, depending on project needs and security situation.
• Field visits will involve more basic living conditions, sometimes arduous travel and potentially high levels of insecurity.
