LOCATION: ARUSHA
PURPOSE: The Project Manager will assist the LMI Project Director to work closely with both LWR and its partners implementing malaria control activities, notably the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), and will provide technical, management and operations support to LMI throughout Tanzania. The Project Manager will support the design and implementation of a health and livelihoods approach in Tanzania and will be responsible for monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all aspects of implementation of the LMI-funded project(s) in Tanzania in accordance with LWR and partners' regulations, among others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Support:
Assist LMI Project Director and other LWR/Tanzania staff and in designing and implementing strategies to link livelihoods and health activities.
Assist LMI Project Director in identifying new partners, conducting participatory capacity and needs assessments with current and potential livelihoods partners to gauge opportunities for engagement in health and livelihoods programs.
Assist potential partners in designing programming strategies focused on health and livelihoods and developing concept papers, proposals and budgets.
Provide technical support and accompaniment to livelihoods partners; identify emerging technical and management issues and opportunities to meet these needs in coordination with the LMI Project Director and other LWR/Tanzania staff.
Management Support:
Assist the LMI Project Director with data collection, management, analysis and reporting.
Assist in providing frequent project and program updates to the Project Director, Country Director, Regional Office and headquarters and ensure information is appropriately shared with Lutheran World Relief and its partners.
Assist with measurement of progress towards proposed project objectives, and ensure that the monitoring and evaluation and reporting approach are consistent with approved monitoring plans and industry-standard indicators.
Assist in reviewing and analyzing LMI project reports on performance, status of activities as compared to work plan, and actual spending as compared to budget in order to anticipate, identify, and address potential challenges.
Assist LMI Project Director and partners in ensuring submission of complete, high quality progress, financial, audit and evaluation reports in accordance with LWR guidelines on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis.
Work with implementing partners in identifying key lessons learned from project and document through case studies, project press releases, photos, situation reports, project briefs and updates.
Operations Support:
Assist with day-to-day management of contractors, office operations, administration and budget, in close coordination on administrative matters with relevant regional LWR staff and/or in LWR HQ in order to ensure compliance with LWR policies and procedures.
Assist with preparation of office financial reports, back-up documentation and timely submission.
Assist with travel logistics for LWR visitors in coordination with LMI Project Director and partners.
Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
A successful candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
Strong background in monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and management of economic development, community development or health programming. Knowledge of income-generation, rural financing and malaria control a plus.
At least 3 years' experience in working in or supporting development programs
Experience in working in partnership with other Civil Society Organizations, Donor agencies and/or government is an added advantage
At least a Bachelor's degree in public health, community health, community development, economic development, agricultural development or related field. An advanced degree is preferred. MSC in Agricultural Economics or Rural Development or MPH or other relevant discipline can be added advantage
At least 5 years' experience implementing, monitoring and evaluating health, economic or community development projects.
Fluency in English and Kiswahili with excellent speaking and writing skills.
Experience with grassroots community mobilization and development and community development organizations, NGOs and health partners, as well as a solid appreciation for participatory approaches.
Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
Skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) or any other statistical software; experience making presentations a plus.
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
Available and ready to commit.
