Auto req ID 584BR Title Intern - Online Communities and E-activism Team Online Communities and e-Activism Project Team Programme Campaigns Advert We are currently recruiting for an intern who will be able to assist the Online Communities and E-activism Team ideally for 2-3 days a week for a minimum of 6 months. Brief Description of the Team The Online Communities and e-Activism Team focuses on growing, supporting, and strengthening Online Communities in the Global South. The team looks towards innovation in e-activism and online community building to achieve its aim of mobilization of activists to achieve human rights impact. The team works primarily in countries in which Amnesty International does not have a physical presence. The Online Communities team consists of 4 staff members and is responsible for the African Online Community (AOC), the Bangla Online Community (BOC), Indian Online Community (IOC) and the Latin American Online Community (COLA). The team uses a variety of tools for outreach and engagement, from SMS and social media to external forums. We also use traditional techniques such as official newsletters, blogging and amnesty.org web action as well as our Online Community Leadership Development Programme. Task List Supporting the Online Communities Officer in the following tasks: Monitoring of team’s inboxes Servicing and maintaining social media platforms in the relevant language on human rights issues Engaging with individuals on social networks and encouraging and supporting individuals to take action on Amnesty International campaigns Responding to and engaging in debates with e-activists in virtual spaces in regional online spaces to promote Amnesty International’s campaigns and to monitor the conversation levels and debates around Human rights issues. Generating human rights related debate around Amnesty International campaigns in available virtual spaces Inviting and welcoming activists to join Amnesty International in social networking sites and as e-Members. Providing innovative suggestions for grass-roots and online engagement opportunities within regional constituencies Supporting e-activists to become active members of the Online Communities through capacity-building initiatives. Identifying e-marketing opportunities to promote Amnesty International and publicise Amnesty International on social networking sites, blogs and other online communities and forums Other tasks as requested by the Online Communities Officer Essential Skills & Experience Excellent language and communication skills in English and French. Proven experience of use of Social Media in a professional capacity Interest in online activism and online community building for human rights Ability to multi-task, work independently and on own initiative Ability to work as part of a team Willingness to conduct research to increase team’s productivity Experience in blogging and the use of blogs in a campaigning context Political judgement, reliable and ability to meet deadlines Experience of using website content management systems and basic html, or ability to learn Willingness to remain updated on developing trends within the e-campaigning industry and provide updates to the Online Communities team Desirable Skills & Experience Experience with producing research Experience in membership servicing Preferred days per week 3 Preferred Number Of Months 6 Terms and Conditions Voluntary work in one of the world's leading human rights organizations can provide valuable experience and you will receive a letter of recommendation on completion of your volunteering. Voluntary work is unpaid, although travel and lunch expenses are provided. Amnesty International can act as a sponsor to enable you to arrange your own right to be in the UK as a volunteer.
