PharmAccess Foundation
PharmAccess is a young, fast-growing, international, not-for-profit organization of Dutch origin. Our mission is to improve access to quality health care in Africa, through building sustainable health systems and applying innovative financing mechanisms. We establish public-private partnerships with local organizations and use an output-based approach.
PharmAccess supports programs and offers services in several areas, such as voluntary health insurance for low-income groups, quality improvement and assurance of clinics and hospitals, financing of small and medium-sized enterprises, support of corporate and national healthcare programs, and clinical and operational research programs.
PharmAccess was founded in 2001, and is currently active in more than 10 African countries. Our head office is in Amsterdam and we have country offices in Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya and Namibia. Our activities are financed by donors and clients, such as the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The World Bank, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), large multinationals and the Rockefeller Foundation.
PharmAccess co-initiated the Health Insurance Fund (HIF), the Investment Fund for Health in Africa (IFHA), the Medical Credit Fund (MCF) and SafeCare. The MCF won the SME Finance Challenge People’s Choice Award at the G-20 summit in Seoul, Korea in November 2010.
The Job
The Communication Manager heads the PharmAccess Foundation Communication Department, which currently consists of two staff members. The department plays a pivotal role in the organization and supports the management team, the program managers and our offices abroad. You will be responsible for developing the department into an efficient and fully professional unit. Its key challenge is to explain and promote the Foundation’s diverse and sometimes complex programs and services clearly and effectively to stakeholders and other target groups. You will be responsible for developing our corporate communication strategy, marketing our programs and services to our national and international business partners, donors, and philanthropists, and improving internal communication. You will also act as a sparring partner for management. You will report directly to the Director of Operations & Finance and work in close collaboration with the Managing Director.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A Master’s degree
- A minimum of 15 years relevant work experience, including at least 5 years in a managerial position
- Experience in both the profit and non-profit sectors, and in an international context
- Extensive experience with business-to-business marketing, strategy development, and positioning
- Excellent verbal and written command of Dutch and English, and a skillful copywriter
- Experience with new/social media
- Focused on achieving results and getting things done
- Excellent project managerial skills, a hands-on mentality, and a creative thinker
- A high degree of organizational sensitivity and the ability to operate strategically in a complex political setting
- Experienced spokesperson with an active media network
- Proven leadership skills, good team building qualities, and the ability to motivate and manage staff
- Experience with fundraising is an advantage, as well as knowledge of international development and/or healthcare
PharmAccess offers
PharmAccess offers an excellent job opportunity in a dynamic international environment with solid working conditions and a branch conform salary. PharmAccess has a fulltime workweek of 40 hours, a collective pension scheme and a collective health insurance. We offer 25 free days a year based on a fulltime employment agreement.
