The SADC Secretariat invites suitably qualified and experienced applicants who are citizens of the SADC Region to apply for the position of Technical Advisor – Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA’s).
TECHNICAL ADVISOR – TRANSFRONTIER CONSERVATION AREAS
Overall Purpose of the Job
To provide advisory services to the SADC Secretariat on technical and policy matters pertaining to the SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes. Assisting the Senior Programme Officer for Natural Resources and Wildlife Management in the management and administration of the SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programme.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Compilation of best practice regional guidelines for the development and establishment of SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes and their implementation by SADC Member States
- Provides support to the development and harmonization of policies and legislation for Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programme in the region
- Facilitates the carrying out of cost benefit assessments of Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes, proposing models of cost and benefit sharing
- Development of strategies and technical concepts including guidelines, manuals, and procedures on Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes
- Coordinates information sharing among Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes and establishment of a resource centre
- Supports the elaboration and development of regional community based integrated natural resource management and supports the elaboration and marketing strategies in Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes
- Promotes and monitors partnerships between the private sector, public sector, and civil society for the benefit of Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes
- Monitoring the performance of Transfrontier Conservation Areas Programmes in the region and supporting their development in Member States
Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Management or equivalent qualification.
Experience
Minimum 10 years' experience working in the natural resources conservation and management arena. Experience in policy formulation, developing resource use plans in the context of strategic and operational planning, including experience at senior management levels in government, projects and/or NGOs is mandatory.
Other Skills Requirements
- Computer literacy: excellent command of MS-Office and other related relevant packages
- Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication systems
- Understanding of international trends and protocols in trans-boundary natural resources management
Knowledge of French or Portuguese will be an added advantage.
Remuneration
All inclusive cash based of at least 42,000 Euro per annum.
