The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the larger organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of national and international policy across the globe.
CSIS is seeking a Program Coordinator and Research Associate for the Africa Program. This position is responsible for providing substantive research support to the program staff, as well as managing the operations of the office, including program development, outreach efforts, budget, administrative, and research and writing support. The Program Coordinator will provide direct support to the Director.
Description of Duties
¡Provides administrative assistance:
¡Manages the day-to-day operations of the office, including fielding program calls, maintaining program calendar and arranging travel.
¡Provides financial oversight for program budget.
¡Maintains contact database and program files.
¡Coordinates event logistics for conferences and meetings.
¡Maintains the program's website and blog.
¡Supports program development:
¡Prepares and disseminates routine correspondence.
¡Provides outreach support to program stakeholders.
¡Contribute to the development of long-term projects and initiatives by researching and drafting proposals for future funding.
¡Provides research support:
¡Conduct research on all major elements of U.S. foreign policy toward Africa.
¡Oversees the preparation of internal reports, program publications, and research papers.
¡Follow day-to-day developments in Africa in conjunction with Program staff.
¡Supervises intern staff in day-to-day activities.
Qualification:
Experience
Graduate degree in International Affairs or a related field is required. Must have demonstrated interest in Africa or U.S. foreign policy research. Ability to write research reports, concept papers, business correspondence, etc. Must have strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage competing priorities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, domestic and foreign governmental entities, corporations, and the general public. Must be computer literate, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based research tools.
