POSITION OF AN Extension Specialist
Background
SUA and the American Institutes of Research (AIR) have signed an agreement that will enable SUA join an international alliance to develop and adopt a strategy for building a radio-based, impact driven, small-farmer extension support system, namely Farmer Voice Radio (FVR). Farmer Voice Radio employs a new model of Agricultural Extension that builds around radio extension teams. SUA FVR is a partnership program with an NGO known as the Tanzania Farmer Radio Initiative (TAFRI)
SUA FVR program intends to recruit a competent and self motivated person to fill an immediate vacant position of an Extension Specialist.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful person will work closely with the SUA FVR team in coordinating the planned activities. Among the focal activities include:
• Man and coordinate FVR research desk
• Liaise with TAFRI in carrying out planned joint activities
• Liaise with collaborating District Radio stations in implementing FVR activities
• Plan and organize regular internal meetings and serve as secretary to the SUA FVR team
• In partnership with TAFRI, plan and organize joint regular meetings, workshops, training and other fora.
Qualifications/Experience
• Must posses a degree in agriculture. A graduate in Agriculture extension will be more desirable.
• Ability to organize work independently and to work in a team
• Willingness to travel to collaborating districts as may be required.
• Good communication skills and mannerism
• Excellent computer skills including report writing
Salary: An attractive salary will be offered based on the terms of the FVR program
Duration
18 months contract, renewable depending on impressive performance and the project getting extension.
Work Station: Institute of Continuing Education, Sokoine University of Agriculture,
Morogoro.
