Raleigh International Trust -  Country Director– Tanzania  – Full Time - £26,000 pa
The Country Director (CD) is the senior member of a team of at least three international staff and several local staff based in-country responsible for representing and delivering Raleigh International’s interests. Our aim is to develop a number of long-term country programmes that work with young people to deliver sustainable development. Raleigh’s programmes in Tanzania consist of Expedition programmes;  predominantly achieved by working with international teams  on environmental, community and adventure projects and Raleigh  International Citizen Service (ICS)  programme; which is a DFID funded programme to work with in-country and UK volunteers (50/50 ratio) designed to have a positive development impact on poor communities while also achieving the personal and social development of the volunteers.
 
The Country Director will provide strong leadership to the International and National staff team who are responsible for representing and delivering Raleigh International’s programmes in Tanzania.  The role involves oversight of delivery and development of the programmes, long term strategic planning, developing local and National relationships, National funding streams, management of significant crises or incidents, routine and long term budget control and managing the in-country staff team. 
 
Prior experience, in a senior programme management role, of developing and delivering overseas youth focused community development programmes of a similar duration, scale and ambition are essentialrequirements for this role. Applicants  who do not fully meet all the listed essential criteria in the job specification will not be considered.
 
The successful candidate will be expected to start in May 2013 in Tanzania, after a period of induction in London. We are looking for  professionals with proven and extensive experience of developing and delivering sustainable community development programmes overseas and managing the welfare and activities of groups of adult and youth volunteers to achieve the programmes aims.

Note: The salary advertised is based on the recruitment of an international staff member (i.e. from outside the country or region of programme delivery). Those we consider to be  nationally recruited candidates will be offered a salary grade commensurate with our local salary structure.
