General: The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a nonprofit international center that, for more than 30 years, has provided a broad range of services in technical assistance, research, training, and problem solving. IFDC’s results-oriented projects cover specialties from agribusiness to engineering and technology development, from management information systems to plant nutrient management, policy reform, and market development. IFDC provides practical, unbiased solutions to the challenges confronting the decision makers of the world’s public and private agricultural sectors in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.
The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) seeks to recruit an Accountant and a Program Assistant to its Addis Ababa office located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Addis Ababa campus.
Main Duties:
The primary responsibility of the Accountant will be to assist project staff prepare budgets, seeks approval from the divisional office for prepared budgets, to facilitate payments at training events and for staff travel, and to record expenditures.
- S/he will monitor cash inflows and outflows and be responsible for raising cash requests through the Country Representative to ensure smooth implementation of project activities. Other responsibilities will include the followings:
- Ensures that project expenditure is fully compliant and in compliance with project policies and procedures
- Ensures that all project financial data are kept up to date and that interested parties get accurate and timely feedback/reports
- Assists with applications for tax and duty exemptions, when applicable
- Prepares vouchers for approval by ensuring that all the necessary documents are attached
- Ensures that project staff and contracted partners provide their accounting on time and verifies that these are in compliance with individual donor rules and regulations before these are presented to the divisional office
- Provides accurate coding at transaction level to ensure that expenditure monitoring is accurate and data is captured in the right cost and sub cost centers
- Ensures all payments for supplies and services are made promptly
- Verifies source documents for completeness, authenticity and arithmetic accuracy in accordance with established control procedures before processing payment??
- Any other duties and responsibilities, falling within the appointee’s general purview and professional domain, as may be assigned from time to time
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- A university degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline
- Working towards accounting certification
Work Experience:
- At least five (5) years practical experience with a reputable organization
Skills:
- Familiarity with taxation issues and other statutory contribution schemes in Ethiopia
- Computer literary is a must; especially usage of Ms Excel, Ms Word, and e-mail
Grade: 2C level 2.
Minimum Base Salary: Birr 10,413 per month
Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is (fixed term) for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding.
