Position Summary:
The SID-Washington Program Officer will work closely with, and report to, the Executive Director, with duties in the areas of programming, event planning, communications, and management. Start Date: May 2012
Duties & Responsibilities:
Programming
Coordinate, oversee, and serve as the key organizational contact to 23 sectoral and regional workgroups
Manage and assist in organizing workgroup panels
Address Institutional Member event requests, and when relevant design, coordinate and implement special events programming for such requests. Collaborate with, coordinate and facilitate programming partnerships with current and potential SID-Washington members
Collaborate with planning committees of monthly, quarterly and annual events to secure speakers and develop event programs
Event Planning
Lead logistical planning and execution of Annual Conference, Gala Dinner, Career Fair as well as on monthly and quarterly events. Coordinate with event venues and outside vendors on event logistics
Develop and track event budgets; coordinate with fundraising committee to ensure events stay on budget
Communications
Update, manage and maintain programming content on SID-Washington website, including events calendar, summaries and workgroup webpages. Responsible for editing, formatting, and distributing weekly e-newsletter
Serve as main point of contact for Institutional Member event and job announcements
Assist with outreach efforts to members, media and outside groups to promote SID-Washington programming
Management
Train and directly supervise Program Assistant and interns in their work as it relates to programming and event planning.
With Program Assistant, recruit and train volunteers for major annual events
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in political science, international relations, or international development), master’s degree a plus.
At least 3 years full-time work experience in an office environment (preferably in international development or related field)
Demonstrated event planning and facilitation experience
Demonstrated communications and outreach experience
Some management experience highly desirable
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Knowledge of MS Publisher, Adobe Photoshop and ConstantContact a plus.
Basic knowledge of website maintenance desirable
Ability to solve problems creatively, undertake detail-oriented work, and work well as a member of a team
Able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure
Compensation will be competitive for the non-profit field and will be commensurate with experience.
