General Secretary of the International Federation of the Blue Cross “An Opportunity to Change Lives and Make a Real Difference” The International Federation of the Blue Cross “IFBC” is looking for a new General Secretary to lead the Secretariat in Bern, Switzerland, and represent the affairs of its 43 members at the international level. Established in 1886 in Geneva, Switzerland, the IFBC is a politically and denominationally independent non-governmental, umbrella organization. Its 43 member organizations provide prevention, education and aftercare services to those affected by alcohol and drugs through their locally managed and funded activities. Reporting to the IFBC Board (Network Committee), the General Secretary is the executive officer responsible for leading the IFBC Secretariat and administering and facilitating the activities of member organizations at the international level. He / She is also responsible for: · directing and facilitating the affairs of member organizations at the international level · directing the IFBC mission and strategy at the international level · representing IFBC in international networks · overseeing development and implementation of projects – alongside partners and member organizations · promoting better understanding of issues relating to alcohol and drug abuse in relation to health, care, well being and public policy IFBC invites applications from qualified candidates for this post. The successful candidate will: - be educated to degree level (or equivalent) - experienced in administration and management of a non-profit organization - be knowledgeable and experienced in social care, public health, and / or development issues - have a cross cultural perspective - be sociable and relational, with good people skills, able to work well with people from different cultures and faiths - have an awareness of alcohol and addiction issues and how they relate to social, public health and development considerations - be a good team leader and team player, good humored - be able to identify with and represent Blue Cross Christian values and principles - be prepared to travel internationally (approx. 25% of the time) As this is an international cross cultural role he/she should be fluent in English with the willingness to work actively, as well as engage and communicate in other languages. A good working knowledge of French and German would be a distinct advantage.
