Reporting to Kabanga’s Social Performance Manager, this position is based in the Kabanga Nickel office in Dar es Salaam but will require significant periods of field work in Ngara District, Kagera Region.
The successful candidate will have the following Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess various models for community development funding and delivery
- Prepare a Community Development Plan based on the outcome of the above assessment and theTanzanian Government’s rural development policy, processes & structures
- Plan and oversee the participatory design, management, monitoring and evaluation of community development programs focused on:
- public health,
- water and sanitation,
- education,
- agriculture and entrepreneurship
- Together with relevant company departments, plan and implement the company’s local procurement and local supplier development strategy
- Develop strong relationships with relevant local Government authorities, Non-Governmental Organisations & other development agencies
- Identify both co-funding and delivery partnerships and opportunities
- Provide internal and external reports as required
- Train and mentor Community Development team members
- Budgetary planning and management
Desired Skills & Experience
Candidate profile:
The desirable candidate must possess the following qualities:
At least 5 years’ experience in managing the relationships between a rural community and an extractive sector company
- Solid understanding of rural development needs and processes in Tanzania, as well as a solid understanding of the mining sector
- An established record of successful delivery of community development programs in Tanzania
- Strong communication and listening skills (excellent verbal and facilitation skills) in order to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent written communication skills in English and exceptional social skills in across-cultural context
- Excellent judgement and decision-making skills under pressure
- Proven research and analytical skills, combined with design, planning and implementation skills
- Strong ethical values and commitment to maintaining high standards of corporate social responsibility
- High energy and enthusiasm
- Excellent relationship building, negotiation and influencing skills
- University degree in a related program
Company Description
Our client, Kabanga Nickel Company Limited, is a Tanzanian-based mining company managing the Kabanga NickelProject (the Project).
Having completed the exploration phase, and currently in the project approval phase, Kabanga Nickel is urgently looking to fill the position of Community Development Lead. The approval phase will consist of the lodgement of the Environmental Impact Statement, the granting of the Environmental Certificate, negotiating a successful Mineral Development Agreement with the Government of Tanzania and being granted a Special Mining Licence.
