OVERALL DESCRIPTION
General Description of the Programme:
GOAL first started working in South Sudan in Mid 1980s, originally through short term emergency intervention. GOAL South Sudan currently has 5 programme sites Twic County (Warrap state), Baliet, Ulang and Maban counties (Upper Nile State) and Agok (Abyei Administration Area.
At these sites GOAL South Sudan operates public health programme activities including: curative primary health care, based on the management of primary health clinics; preventative health care including HIV/AIDS messaging, malaria control and hygiene promotion; nutrition and food security, water and sanitation engineering and clinic construction/rehabilitation.
General Description of the Role:
The Assistant Community Health Coordinator (ACH-Co) will be part of the roving health team with extensive travel to the 4 field locations. The ACH-Co will contribute to the overall goal of developing sustainable local capacity to manage and implement a comprehensive primary health care service to its own community. The ACH-CO will be extensively involved in building the capacity of the Community Health Team and volunteers in health promotion , in mobilising communities in order to promote healthy practices and behaviour, mitigate impact of illness and prevent the outbreak of diseases (focusing on EPI, Mother & Child Health, Malaria, Health & Hygiene, HIV/AIDS, Nutrition and Water and Sanitation related diseases).. The ACH-Co will work closely with all the health teams in the field.
Key Duties:
• Assisting the community Health Coordinator to develop, roll out, monitor and evaluate the Community Health programme
• Assist the Community health coordinator to develop and revise Community Health training manuals, IEC & BCC materials and reporting formats for target groups
• Providing regular support, supervision and capacity building of community Health teams
• Ensuring community outreach and mobilisation occurs
• Ensuring coordination and integration of programs with livelihoods, health Nutrition, WASH and REFLECT
• Assist to review and ensure timely request of CH supplies are made
• Participate in assessments as required
• Support CH teams in preparation of Health Promotion days (Hygiene Day, Malaria Day, World AIDS Day, Immunisation Day)
• Supporting the implementation of new initiatives like CLTS, Care Group model, Adult Peer educators and School Health clubs.
• Assisting with Community Health proposal writing
• Assist in the implementation of the GOAL South Sudan HIV and AIDs policy and procedures
• Participate in recruitment and induction of new CH team staff
• Providing technical support to health promotion teams
• participate in in the appraisal of CHOs and CHNP Supervisors
• Reviewing all Community Health monitoring and evaluating trends in health promotion data Training and capacity building Community Health Committees
• Representing GOAL at Community health and HIV and AIDS meetings and other forums as required.
• Deputise the CH-Co as required
• Any other relevant duties as assigned by GOAL CH-Co
Requirements (Person Specification)
• A Diploma in Community Health or its equivalent (essential)
• Experience in use of MS Word and Excel packages
• Fluent in spoken and written English
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good report writing skills
• Previous experience in health promotion
