AMREF is recruiting a Deputy Country Director. This is a key senior leadership and management position reporting to the Country Director. As part of the senior management team, the Deputy Country Director will provide leadership in the development and implementation of health programmes,
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership in the implementation of AMREF Business plan, 2011-2014 focusing on maternal, newborn
and child health(MNCH), HIV/AIDS & TB, Malaria, Water & Sanitation and Hygiene, and Clinical and Diagnostics health issues in Tanzania and alternative ways of AM REF's contribution to addressing these and other health issues in collaboration with country technical teams.
Contribute to resource mobilisation through proposal development, negotiation and advocacy on AM REF's
Identified priority areas.
Provide leadership in the design and implementation of country health programmes
Manage, improve and maintain country Project Management System (PJMS).
Provide technical guidance and support in the implementation the health interventions
Support development and maintenance of AMREF Operations Research framework and plans Initiate research on a wide range of health issues in accordance with AMREF Tanzania mandate
Direct and support the identification, documentation and dissemination of lessons learned and best practices in
health programming
Provide leadership in the development of quality assurance tools and processes and facilitate their application in AMREF programmes and projects.
Build and consolidate partnerships with key partners including government agencies, bilateral donors, multilateral
organizations, UN agencies, NGOs, private sector, academic institutions and other development partners with a view to more effective advocacy strategies. Advocate globally for evidence based poverty-alleviation policies and practices Develop and maintain an appropriate monitoring and evaluation system for the country programmes
Guide and support capacity building of technical and project staff to deliver highly effective community driven
health interventions
Consolidate and review monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual programme development and implementation reports based on agreed priority areas, work plans and budgets.
The ideal candidate will have a Masters degree in public health or a closely related field, with at least five years progressive hands on experience in implementing primary health in developing countries. Familiarity with the health and development needs of disadvantaged people is required in addition to a proven track-record of results-based programme development & management, building effective partnerships and strategic alliances and leading effective technical teams
